Junior Quarterback Ryan Mallett is a 6-6 235-pounder from Texarkana, Texas -- and perhaps the #1 junior prospect in the country. GoBlueWolverine talked to him Monday -- here is Part One.
How was your season? Did you make it into playoffs?
"We made the playoffs, but we got beat out in the first round 38-31. We lost to Matthew Stafford's team, Highland Park."
Mallett was modest about his season stats, but said he threw for over 2,000 yards.
Do you plan on making it back up to Michigan anytime this year?
"I plan on attending the 2006 Michigan Summer Football Camp. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it up before then; right now I'm playing basketball, so hopefully sometime in the spring time."
What are your thoughts about the University of Texas vs. the University of Michigan?
"They are two totally different kinds of schools, different atmospheres. But both head coaches, Coach Carr and Coach Brown, are nice when I talk to them."
What do you like about Michigan?
"Scot Loeffler is a real nice guy, lots of fun and easy to work with. My coach is good friends with him. And he said he was coming down this weekend or sometime soon. He watched me play a couple weeks ago."
What about Arkansas as a school option for you?
"No. The have not talked to me. When I was at camp last summer they said they were interested and would offer me, but I haven't heard anything from them. They are not an option for me right now."
Mallett is keeping up with this seasons's recruiting -- and with U-M recruiting specifically -- since he asked a question:
"Did you talk to Tim Tebow this weekend during, or after, his official visit?"
