The attention focused in the direction of Greenfield (OH) McClain wing Dante Jackson by Michigan has been on the rise in recent months. Just last week the basketball staff hosted members of his family for the Ohio State football game and they came away extremely impressed.
“My family made it up there and they really enjoyed it,” Jackson said. “I wasn’t able to go because my team had to practice that day and I thought I should go to that. I heard a lot about it and they got back, though, and they really had a great time. They were taken around to see Crisler Arena and some other places. They said that they also got a chance to sit down and speak with coach Amaker and Coach Moore. They just had a great time.”
Rumors of an offer being extended emerged last week, but Jackson indicated that that talk was unfounded. “I don’t have an offer yet,” he said. “I haven’t really talked to [the Michigan coaches] in depth since they came down. I’d love to get an offer from them. It would be great, but I’m not in a hurry to do anything. I’m looking at the other schools on my list as well.”
Jackson mentioned that his decision timetable called for him to make his choice sometime after his season, likely in June or July. Could that plan be altered by a Michigan offer? “It’s possible that it could speed it up slightly, but it probably won’t,” he said after a slight pause. “We’ll have to see. Right now I think I’m going to take my time so I can make the best decision.”
If and when the Wolverines make a scholarship available for Jackson, at least one member of his family will likely be convinced that Ann Arbor is the place for him. “My mom loves Coach Amaker,” Jackson said. “I really think my mom would like to see me go to Michigan because always has such nice things to say about him. She just loves the guy. But again, she has said it’s my decision, and I’m going to do what’s best for me.”
Another person that wouldn’t mind seeing Jackson in the Maize and Blue is future Wolverine Alex Legion. Michigan’s new ace recruiter has been telling all those interested that they should join him in Ann Arbor. Jackson’s family members were the latest to receive the invitation. “I guess Alex and his dad came up to them and really said that I should come up there with them,” Jackson said. “They were really nice and that was flattering. Like I said, I think my mom would like to see me go there, but it’s going to be my decision. We’ll see.”
GoBlueWolverine will have more on Jackson in the coming weeks.
