Defensive Linemen
The Need: With DT's Jason Kates and John Ferrera (with Marwues Slocum), DE/DT Adam Patterson, and DE's Greg Banks and Quintin Woods, this need is well-filled.

-- U-M 'Commitment X': Marques Slocum DT 6'6 330 5.1 Milford Academy Berlin N.Y.

A 2004-05 U-M signee and U.S. Army All-American from Philadelphia West Catholic, Slocum finished just shy of the NCAA qualifying standard. He will still enroll at U-M whenever he qualifies -- he is home now and will take ACT and SAT tests through the winter and spring.

-- U-M Commitment #7 (Dec. 2 official visit): John Ferrara 6'5 260 5.0 Staten Island Monsignor Farrell New York. After watching his fall film, U-M offered on Oct. 20 -- and he accepted. The 4.0 student also had offers from PSU, MSU, Duke, Ole Miss, Rutgers and Northwestern.

-- Michigan Commitment #13 (Dec. 2 official visit): Greg Banks 6'2 260 5.2 Denver Montebello. He had Coach Carr in his home on Thursday, Dec. 15, and he committed to the Wolverines. He also visited Colorado (the Nov. 24 weekend), and has a Cal visit the Dec. 9 weekend. He is Scout.com's #14 Midlands prospect. He had planned to graduate in December and enroll in college in January, but in the end had to go all the way to June to graduate.

-- Michigan commitment #19 (January 7 official visit) Adam Patterson DE 6'3 262 4.65 Columbia Richland Northeast South Carolina. Scout.com's #33 East prospect. He committed on Signing Day even, Jan. 31. A 2004 U-M Camper, he made all 5 of his schools in Jan: Tennessee (Jan. 13), South Carolina (Jan. 16), NC State (Jan. 20) and Auburn (the final Jan. 27 weekend). He was a 2004 U-M Camper.

-- Michigan Commitment #16 (Jan. 13 official visit): Quintin Woods DE 6'4 225 4.6 Flint Southwestern Academy. He made an official to U-M on January 13, and he committed and cancelled his Iowa and Missouri visits. He didn't play football his junior season. As a senior he recorded over 100 tackles and 18 tackles for loss.

-- Signing Day LOI Signee (January 20 official visit set): DL/OL Jason Kates 6'2 320 4.97 Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt Pa. He picked Michigan on Signing Day. He had his U-M in-home Thursday, Jan. 26, and will announce onSigning Day at 2:00 PM at his school -- between U-M and Syracuse. Kates visited Minnesota, Syracuse and Maryland; U-M was his final visit. His U-M interest goes way back ... he wanted to attend the 2005 Michigan Camp but didn't make it. He reports a 2.7 GPA and a 400-plus-pound bench press.

The Need: with Super ILB Brandon Graham, solid LB Cobrani Mixon and sleeper OLB Quintin Patilla, this need was met.

-- Michigan Commitment #1 (Dec. 2 official visit): Brandon Graham LB 6'1 235 4.40 Detroit Crockett Michigan. Scout.com's #12 prospect. He had a great Army All-American Bowl game. His official U-M visit is Dec. 2nd. And he may visit PSU on Jan. 14 -- he has it scheduled (click HERE for the story ... is it a threat to U-M? ... nah ... will he visit there? nah ...). From the same program as Penn State's' Edward Johnson and Michigan's John Thompson, Graham is at another level. He is the top prospect in Michigan and one of the nation's elite linebackers. He committed to Michigan in February 2005. Graham has a 3.8 grade-point average.

-- Michigan Commitment #5 (Dec. 2 official visit): Cobrani Mixon LB 6'2 220 4.60 Cincinnati Colerain Ohio. Dec. 2 official visit. Scout.com's #24 Midwest prospect committed to U-M on July 27. He was a force in this past June's U-M Camp. He wore a knee brace in the camp since he suffered an ACL injury as a junior although he toughed it out and returned to the field late in the season to end up with 100 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 6 sacks. He had postseason surgery. He also attended U-M's winter Junior day.

(Dec. 2 official visit) -- Michigan commitment #3: Quintin Patilla LB/RB/WR 6'2 1/2 210 4.65 Flint Carman-Ainsworth Michigan. Dec. 2 official visit. Scout.com's #64 Midwest prospect. The underrated Patilla was a force at OLB at the Michigan Camp, fast and hard-hitting. He was offered a few days after the camp ended, and immediately committed.

Defensive Backs
The Need: with Super SS Jonas Mouton and Top 100 FS Steve Brown, this need was met.

-- (Dec. 9 official visit) Michigan Commitment #6: Steve Brown S/CB 6'1 200 4.39 Columbus East Indiana. Scout.com's #95 prospect and #12 Midwest prospect, Brown will make a Dec. 9 Michigan official visit. Brown, who grew up a Wolverine fan, blew up the Michigan Nike Camp in April, 2005 with a 4.39 40, and was rewarded with early offers from Michigan and Notre Dame among others. He attended the end-of-July Michigan Recruiting Day, then picked the Wolverines over the Irish on August 1st. He broke his ankle in mid-Sept. and had surgery -- he missed the rest of his senior season but toughed it out to play in the Army All American game.

-- (Sept. 10 official visit) Jonas Mouton S 6'2 212 4.50 Venice California. Scout.com's #48 prospect picked U-M on Signing Day. He made his U-M official visit for Sept. 10 for the ND game. U-M and USC (Dec. 2) were in his final three -- he also visited Texas the Jan. 20 weekend (his mom graduated from UT). He also visited LSU (Oct. 14 official visit; he grew up in the Bayou), Nebraska (Sept visit) and Cal (Dec. 9). He is friends with Eugene Germany and, especially, Chris Richards. A Venice coach was one of the coaches at the U-M camp this summer.

Place Kickers
The need: not huge with Garrett Rivas back for one more year, but there are enough scholarships available to give one to a kicker.

-- (Dec. 9 official visit) Michigan commitment #9: PK Bryan Wright 6'1 200 Salem Ohio. Wright attended the Notre Dame, Indiana and Ohio State games as an unofficial visitor, and a couple days after the OSU game he was offered a scholarship -- and he accepted. Wright kicked the 2nd longest field goal in Ohio high school history, a 57-yarder, this season. He also made field goals from 52, 48, 47, 38, 35 and 30 yards. He had just three misses on the season -- from 46, 48 and 55 yards. His dad is from Western Pa. and played for Cincinnati. He also has a 3.6 GPA.

-- Walkon P/K Sam Buckman 6'4 200 Minnetonka Minnesota. He kicked 14 of 16 field goals his junior season, but made just 3 of 5 his senior year.
