What's the Deal with Marques Slocum?

A question that has been asked many times in the Michigan world is, "What's the deal with Marques Slocum?" The five-star prospect out of Philadelphia attended Milford Prep this fall, and is hoping to enroll at Michigan in the winter. All that is needed is the proper test score.

Wolverine fans will recall that Marques Slocum of Philadelphia - the No. 4 defensive lineman for the recruiting class of 2005 - signed with Michigan in February, only to fall short in his scholastic pursuit. As a result he attended Milford Academy in New York with the intention of improving his academics.

So, the question on the minds of Michigan fans is, "What's the deal with Slocum?" The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Slocum took the SAT at the beginning of December. GoBlueWolverine.com has recently been in contact with Slocum, and he has maintained it will only be a matter of time before he received his test score. However, with classes beginning on Thursday, time is running short for Slocum to get into Michigan for the winter semester. On Tuesday, he claims to still be waiting. "I was supposed to get my scores online, but they gave me the wrong number so I didn't get the score," he said. "I have to call Milford and hope they have the score. I'm still planning on enrolling on Thursday."

Slocum said that other schools have been in touch with him, but he is intent on being a Wolverine. "If I don't get the right score, I have until June to get one," he said. "But I will be at Michigan. I have to call Coach (Steve) Stripling tomorrow and let him know what's going on."

Slocum, a 2005 participant in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game, said he would be watching the game on Saturday.
