More on Mouton and the Coach's Visit

A pair of Michigan coaches was in the home Monday of five-star safety Jonas Mouton of Venice, Calif., High School. While a Michigan commitment was not immediately forthcoming, some issues were addressed. followed up with Mouton on Tuesday.

Whether to stay close to home with the security of family and friends, or whether to choose the excitement and adventure of going off to a distant land -- that is the decision now facing safety Jonas Mouton of Venice, Calif., High School. The magnitude of the decision is apparent when speaking with the talented young man. He has maintained for some time that one school sticks out above the rest, but he has yet to make the identity of that school public. "No, nothing has changed there," he told on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Mouton lists a final three of USC, Michigan, and LSU. Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr and defensive backs coach Ron English were in the Mouton home on Monday. "The visit went well; as you know I didn't commit or anything," he said. "I'm going to wait until Signing Day."

Mouton said that a recent inquiry by Texas had him briefly considering a visit to the Longhorns, but that is now off. "They had shown a little interest, but I'm done with my visits," he said.

The No. 5 safety prospect in the country according to brought up some concerns with the visiting Michigan coaches. "I asked them about being away from home," Mouton said. "They told me Michigan is a family, and that everyone looks out for each other. I don't mind being away from home, but I think the weather is more of a concern for me right now."

He said he'd spoken on the subject with his friends in Michigan - freshmen defensive backs Johnny Sears and Chris Richards, both California kids - and Mouton said both of them told him that the weather wasn't what most people think. "But they aren't me," he said.

Mouton said his family is allowing him the space to make his decision. "They are letting me do what I think is best for me," he said.
