Who's Brent Schaeffer; what's he to U-M fans?

He's a top quarterback prospect ... and he's deciding soon ... and ... well, you'll just have to read on to find out.

Junior College Quarterback Brent Schaeffer is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound run-pass QB with a 4.55 40 who was Tennessee's starting signalcaller for part of his freshman season.

He is now at the College of the Sequoias, he's perhaps THE top JC prospect overall in the nation -- and he is about to re-choose his 4-year school ... in fact he is announcing tomorrow (Friday) at 3 PM.

He is not a Michigan recruit ... but, according to the article linked below, he is "Ole Miss' top prospect this recruiting season ..."

Jan. 18: Ole Miss in-home with Schaeffer, announcement Friday.

Jan 16: Schaeffer is Ole Miss' Top Recruit.

Why does this impact Michigan? Because Ole Miss currently HAS a QB commitment -- Nick Stephens, who is visiting Michigan this weekend.

Now can you see why Stephens is visiting U-M tomorrow? Ole Miss has a new offensive coordinator, who came over from Miami (Fla.), and this new OC wants Schaeffer (who went to high school in Florida and was a Miami recruit at the time, etc.)

Stay tuned ... if Schaeffer picks Ole Miss (over NC-State and Wisconsin) tomorrow, and it seems he could be leaning that way, then Stephens could just fall into the Wolverines' lap this weekend -- which would be an excellent late "needs pickup" for the U-M recruiting class.
