Steve Schilling Sets Announcement Date

Five-star offensive tackle Steve Schilling is set to take his final official visit this weekend. After returning he will begin the process of choosing from his remaining list of four schools, including Michigan. spoke Thursday with the big man, and he laid out the timeline for his decision.

The wait for the staff of the USC Trojans to get their crack at five-star offensive lineman Steve Schilling is almost over. The No. 3 lineman in the country according to is planning to leave Friday morning for Southern California for his official visit with the Trojans, after having to cancel on two prior occasions. "Oh yeah, I'm going," Schilling said. "I'm looking forward to getting down there."

With the USC official visit being his last, Schilling will begin the process of selecting his final destination upon his return. The schools from which he will choose are USC, Michigan, Cal, and Washington. "What I plan on doing when I get back is narrowing it down to a final two," he said. "Then I'll announce my choice on Friday (January 27th).

Schilling has hosted some visitors recently, including Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr and defensive backs coach Ron English. "They were here on Tuesday and we had a real nice visit," Schilling said. "My whole family got a chance to meet the coaches and that was nice. We pretty much talked about the usual things." He added that the coaches from UC-Berkeley were in on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Schilling participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl events held Jan. 1 - 7 in San Antonio, Texas. While there he befriended a fellow offensive tackle, and Michigan commitment, Justin Boren. "I got to hang out with Justin and got to know him pretty good," Schilling said. "Coach (Andy) Moeller gave me his number, and also gave Justin mine, and we've talked a few times since the Army game."

Schilling said he's enjoyed his once-in-a-lifetime experience surrounding his recruiting, but he is looking forward to ending the process and moving on.
