Co-Fav Maryland Out for Jason Kates?

Defensive lineman Jason Kates of Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisurg, Pa., finished his official visits with a trip to Ann Arbor. He returned and told that Michigan and Maryland were the top two schools on his list. That has now changed, and on Wednesday he updated his list.

On Sunday, lineman Jason Kates of Bishop McDevitt High School told that he two schools are in front for his signature on Feb. 1. "I'm looking at Michigan, Maryland, Syracuse, and Minnesota," said Kates at the time. "Michigan and Maryland lead."

On Wednesday, a rumor surfaced that Maryland had rescinded its offer. Kates denied that claim to GBW last Wednesday afternoon. "I never had any intention of going to Maryland," he said. "They called me and wanted me to commit, and I told them I didn't want to go to Maryland."

The Syracuse coaches were in the Kates household when GBW spoke with the two-star prospect, and the Orangemen have leapt into what is now a top three. "I'm going to decide this week and announce on Feb. 1 between Michigan, Syracuse, and N.C. State," he said.

Kates told GBW that the N.C. State staff will be visiting on Thursday, with Michigan Head Coach Lloyd Carr coming in on Friday.
