Adam Patterson's 2 Top Teammates-CB Gary Gray

Michigan grabbed the top players from Columbia South Carolina's Richland Northeast High right out from under the home schools' (S-Carolina, Clemson) noses this past Signing Day -- DL Adam Patterson -- one of the surprises of the recruiting season. Richland Northeast has two top junior DB's who got heavy attention as well as colleges were recruiting Patterson. Michigan is among several schools that offered these underclassmen as well. First up: GoBlueWolverine talks to cornerback Gary Gray.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Gary Gray played cornerback and quarterback for the state-finals Richland Northeast. For his junior season he had 1,500 yards of total offense including 11 touchdowns; as a CB he made 60 tackles, had 14 pass break-ups, and snared four interceptions. He is a future corner in college. GoBlueWolverine asked him:

Has Michigan offered you a scholarship?

"Yes sir."

"One of the Michigan coaches came to the school when they were recruiting Adam, Coach Campbell. He asked if there were any good juniors on our team. My coach told him about Mark (safety Mark Barnes) and me. They watched film on us. Coach Campbell told my coach this winter that I have a Michigan scholarship offer ... Mark has an offer as well, they offered him last spring when they came in to scout Adam."

Has Adam Patterson talked to you about Michigan?

"Yeah, he's talked to me a little about Michigan ... his picking Michigan was really a big thing for him. He told us how much he liked the coaches and players up there."

Would a South Carolina guy like you really look at going North?

"Yes sir, I would. I'm looking for a chance to play early, and for a school with a good academic background. It could be in the North, definitely."

Have you ever been to Michigan, or to the North?

"I've been to New York, but I've never been in the Midwest."

What other schools have offered you?

"Notre Dame, Texas, South Carolina (their USC), Clemson, Tennessee, Auburn, Maryland, Kentucky, NC-State, Louisville, Georgia Tech."

Do you have any Junior Day plans?

"I haven't been to any yet. I'm going to USC (South Carolina) on the 25th of February."

Have you thought about summer camps?

"I'm not sure right now. Adam has talked to me about coming to the Michigan Camp. And Mark and I are going to go to some of the camps of the schools that have offered us, as many as we can; I have to go through this pretty fast since I'm going to graduate in December and enroll in college in January."

Do you have a list of favorites? Is the instate school, South Carolina, your favorite?

"I grew up watching South Carolina, but I don't have any favorites -- it's too early, I'm checking all my options."
