Will it be F-ball or B-ball for Martell Webb?

What sport will Pontiac, Michigan's Martell Webb play? The dual sport athlete discusses that issue, as well his position preference in college, his summer plans, his leader-board, and more.

The Michigan Wolverines got an early jump on one of the state's best athletes a few months back when they offered Pontiac Northern WR/TE, Martell Webb. The two-sport standout always fancied himself as more of a basketball prospect, but the past few seasons on the gridiron have garnered him just as much attention for football..

"As a team (the season) didn't go that well…we were 4-3, but I had a pretty nice season," Webb said. "I played wide receiver and defensive end. I had seven touchdowns."

Webb's outstanding athleticism will command more offers once word of his abilities begins to leak out of the spring combines. In the meantime, the Maize and Blue would love add him to their talented crop of pass-catchers before the buzz ever starts.

"I'm hearing from Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin…the whole Big Ten, but Michigan is the only offer," he said. "They are talking about tight end, but I want to play wide receiver. I'm 6-4, 210, and I run a 4.7. The player you could compare me to I would say is Terrell Owens. I'm big and I'm hard to stop. If I get this forty-time down, then I'll be alright. I'm attending the Nike camp May 5th."

Despite all of the positive attention coming his way for football, Webb still isn't quite ready to say that's the sport he'll choose when he heads off to college. "Right now I'm not sure," he said. I don't want to close any doors. I've been looking at colleges for both sports. I was up at some tournaments (for basketball) and I played good. I'm hearing from Memphis, Clemson, Penn State, and Oakland University. Basketball has always been there for me but football is just starting to come to me. Coaches just started calling my 10th grade year."

For Webb, the summer will play a significant role in determining what direction he goes in. How he performs at various camps and combines will help further clarify what his best option is. "I know I'm going to try to attend the Michigan camp this summer and attend the Adidas Superstar camp for basketball," Webb said. "I'm not sure where else yet. I don't know when I'll pick a school. I just know I'm not ready to do it now. When I am, a few of the factors will be location and I've got to talk to my parents. They are going to play a big part in my decision."

"For basketball my leader is probably Memphis," Webb continued. "For football, right now it's looking like Michigan."
