Josh Oglesby Profile
Josh Oglesby (6-8, 310, 5.3) of Saint Francis, Wis., has schools knocking down his door. The Scout.com five-star recruit reports 19 offers from some of the finest programs nationwide.
"Right now I'd say my top six are Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Florida State, USC, Ohio State and Michigan," said Oglesby, of Saint Francis High School. "I can't say that any one school is over another right now. Things can change at any moment. I'm really not ready to definitely narrow it down.
"I feel the most comfortable with Wisconsin. I have a really high comfort level with the coaches and the players. They have a new coaching staff that I've really clicked with. Coach (Dave) Doeren and I are really close. I've really connected with a lot of the players too. I've grown up around Badger football and I know the program better than any other. I got the offer from them officially on September 1.
"I really like Notre Dame too. Coach (Charlie) Weis and I talk every Friday. They have a tradition there like no other. It's like playing on hallowed ground. I like the type of offense a lot. I think I could really learn a lot at Notre Dame. All the coaches are great teachers. I mean, when the head coach has won four Super Bowls, how can you go wrong? Coach Weis and Coach (Rob) Ianello came to my school on Monday to see me play."
When asked if the recent commitment of Jimmy Clausen to Notre Dame might influence his decision, Olglesby responded, "I'm going to play my own hand. Yeah, it would be great to play with the top quarterback in the nation, if that's where I see myself playing. My parents are adamant about not letting anyone or anything try to influence my decision.
"I'm looking at Florida State too," he said. "They came to my school today (4/25). I got to meet Coach (John) Lilly. The Florida State coaching staff is really special. They seem like the type of coaching staff that I could talk to like a big brother--not just about football, but if I had a problem or anything I could go to them for advice. We've grown really close.
"USC is looking really good right now too. I got to meet Coach (Brennan) Carroll today at my school. He came to watch me play. We really connected because he is so young and played Div. 1 ball not too long ago. It was refreshing to get a younger perspective from a coach. Not to mention that his dad is Pete Carroll, who's coming out to see me in two weeks. They offered me two or three months ago. They told me that they would love to have me come out and start …they'd like to see me play as a freshman. That really blew me away. They want me to start on an All-American line that is already so deep with talent--I couldn't believe it.
"I really like Ohio State too. They have been there from the beginning. They and Michigan were the first big schools to come in. I went and visited their campus and thought is was absolutely beautiful. The stadium was great too. And their record for producing the top linemen for the NFL is phenomenal…any coach who coached Orlando Pace (OL, St. Louis Rams), who is my idol, definitely has my attention. I really like Coach (Jim) Tressel and Coach (Jim) Bollman a lot. They both are great guys…real straight shooters.
"You can't go wrong with Big Blue," said Oglesby, whose team went 9-4 last season. "Like Ohio State, Michigan has been there from the start. They offered me before a lot of the other big schools. Coach (Andy) Moeller told me I was one of those guys they had to have. I got my official offer from them after camp last year. Coach (Lloyd) Carr and Coach Moeller are coming out Thursday to watch me play. I love the tradition at there too. I mean, the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry with Schembechler and Hayes--you can't beat that!
Oglesby reports a 3.0 core GPA/June first time ACT.
