Will U-M Move Up For Long Beach Poly CB?

Michigan is the latest college to offer Long Beach Poly (Calif.) cornerback Donovan Warren and is visiting him this week -- will the week move the Wolverines up for him?

Donovan Warren Profile

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) cornerback Donovan Warren (5-11, 185, 4.4) continues to receive more national attention. The Scout.com five-star recruit denies a leader but said he favors USC, UCLA, Texas, Notre Dame and California. All have offered except the Irish and the Longhorns—but that may be changing soon.

"Texas and Notre Dame have moved up on my list," Warren said. "Coach (Duane) Akina (Texas) text messaged me and told me that they liked my tape and are really interested in me. They told my coaches that they were coming down here next week to see me. Texas has really started paying a lot of attention. I think they might offer next week. An offer from Texas would be great motivation for me to be my best this season. They would move to the top of my list with an offer. I've been to Texas, but I've never been to UT…I would like to take a visit out there for sure.

"Notre Dame is still recruiting me really hard. I haven't talked to them, but they talk to my coaches a lot. They said they really liked my tape and want to come out here sometime in May to see me. They haven't said when yet because they are still waiting for my transcripts. As soon as they get them, I'm hoping to get an offer."

Warren said he has offers from USC, UCLA, Oregon, Arizona, Mississippi, Cal, Arizona State, Mississippi State and his latest from Michigan. "USC, UCLA and Cal have really stepped it up lately.

"Coach (Pete) Carroll was at my track meet on Friday," he said. "I didn't see him until I crossed the finish line and he was standing there watching me. I couldn't believe it. All I could think was that I was glad that I came in first. I didn't get a chance to talk to him, but my coaches did. I've talked to Coach (Ken) Norton a lot. He told me that they liked where I'm at as a player. He said I just need to come in there and put it all there and compete hard for the job. If I do that, I could see some early play time.

"I really like UCLA too," he said. "I have a lot of respect for Coach (Karl) Dorrell and Coach (DeWayne) Walker. Coach Walker has been recruiting me the hardest. He came to my school last week and told me that they want to make a move at cornerback because a lot of guys are graduating…and that I'll be going into a good situation.

"I'm looking at Cal too. I have some friends that go there and I'm familiar with the campus. I've talked with Coach (Ken) Delgado and he really wants me to take a trip up there. Cal has always been a competitive program and I really like the cornerback situation up there. I could probably see some playing time my first year."

Warren said that Oregon and Ohio State are still strong possibilities, although he hasn't heard much from the Buckeyes lately. "Ohio State is not as high up as they used to be. I'm not really feeling it anymore from them."

Warren reports a 3.1 core GPA/880 SAT – awaiting April 1 SAT retake score.
