Mallett in the Ear of Taurian Washington

Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary's wide receiver Taurian Washington has long been high on the Michigan Wolverines. His recent interaction with Ryan Mallett has only served to make the Maize and Blue stand out more. Washington chats with GoBlueWolverine about that, as well as track, his decision timetable, and more.

Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s wideout Taurian Washington has had little time to rest in recent months. After helping the Eaglet football and basketball teams to very strong seasons, he is doing his part to help his school's track squad finish up on a strong note as well.

Washington will be on the track competing again this Saturday, having qualified to run the 100 meters (where his best time is 10.7), 200 meters (where his time is 21.3), as well as two relay events. He is the second leg of a four-man team comprised of Dionte Allen (first leg), Aaron Gant (third leg), and Anthony Bowman (anchor).

While certainly dedicated to track, Washington hasn't forgotten where his bread is buttered. He continues to spend time honing his football skills as well.

“I have been working out with Justin Stiller and Dionte Allen," he said. "We go and lift weights, work on running routes, footwork, and our agility."

Recruiting has also commanded much of Washington's time. The traffic of calls and texts to his cell phone has reached an all-time high.

“I have talked to coaches from Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, Pittsburgh, Michigan State and Wisconsin," he said. “I spoke with (Michigan assistant) Coach Campbell last Thursday. We had a pretty good conversation. I like Coach Campbell a lot. I have known him since my freshmen year when he came up to Detroit DePorres. He told me he would always look out for me.”

Another person trumpeting Michigan's cause to Washington has been Wolverine quarterback commitment, Ryan Mallett. The Texas gunslinger has done a very good job of selling Washington on the probable success they could have together.

“Man, Ryan is real cool and he is funny too," said Washington. "Me and Dionte talk to him all the time. We talk on the phone and text each other from time to time. Ryan always tells us, 'You come with me you’re guaranteed to win three.' He says we need have T-shirts that say that on them."

Mallett's persistence has only helped the Maize and Blue strengthen its position in Washington's recruitment. That bodes well for Michigan's landing the talented receiver in the coming months.

“I am really enjoying the recruiting process, but I am looking to wrap this up by the start of my season."

GoBlueWolverine will have more on Washington in the coming weeks.
