"I can recognize the plays quickly and be ready," Melancon said. "I have a great first step and good speed off the ball. I have good footwork, but want to work on my swim move and handling double teams."
"Michigan's roster has like five defensive tackles and four defensive ends, but by the time I graduate they'll be losing several of them and they said they will be looking for guys to come in and step up. They think I could play early and help out."
The only school that Melancon has already been to is local favorite LSU. "They are in my backyard so I grew up watching them," Melancon said. "They are only like 45 minutes away. I love the fans at Tiger Stadium. They go crazy on Saturdays. Louisiana really loves LSU football and they have great fan support. Also, they've sent a couple of DLs to the League recently.
"I'd like a chance to come in and play early," Melancon said. "I'll be looking at the depth charts and I need to make sure that I get along with my position coach. I'd like to go to a program that is competitive each year and has a shot at the national championship.
"The Nebraska depth chart looks good and the coaches are good guys and I get along with them well. Also, I hear nothing but good things about their campus and business program."
He reports a 2.5 core GPA and a 16 ACT, which he'll be retaking this month.
