Notable Sunday Performances:
Quarterback Ryan Mallett. Mallett is camping -- for the whole week. And we must say -- Ryan Mallett throwing his lasers at a Michigan camp has become a comforting U-M ritual. On this first day the pass catchers on the receiving end quickly decided they were in a dodgeball game -- time after time they jumped away, no one dared catch one. Of course, U-M fans know from Mallett's film that he also has a great touch on the ball in games -- but when he airs it out it takes a strong and brave receiver to catch it.
Junior offensive tackle J.B. Shugarts. The 6-7, 300-pounder is camping for the whole week, and rooming with Ryan Mallett. Shugarts is big, strong, agile -- and likes Michigan.
Linebacker Brian Smith (6-3, 220) from Overland Park, Kansas, St. Thomas Aquinas. Will he get a U-M offer?
Junior defensive back Mauricio Wallace (6-0, 190) from Murfreesboro Tennessee.
Defensive back Eugene Clifford 6-2, 200 from CIncinnati Colerain. There were several Colerain kids in attendance at the camp -- and Clifford, as usual, was outstanding.
Defensive back Troy Wolfolk from Dulles High in Fort Bend, Texas. First off, he does not have a U-M offer coming into camp. Secondly, however, the 5-11, 175-pounder has very quick feet ... if he performs well in the WR/DB drills as camp the next two days (he camps through Tuesday), an offer could well be in the offing ... he certainly attracted a lot of eyes Sunday, even from Michigan legends.
Note: New Jersey FB Devon Ramsey (6-3, 247) from Lawrenceville Prep is attending, but it seems unlikely that U-M will offer a second fullback in this class (Vince Helmuth being the first).
Not attending on Sunday:
Running back Robert Hughes from Chicago Hubbard. He is not attending or visiting during camp week. However, is will visit this summer - more than once.
Wide receiver Toney Clemons. The bad news -- Clemons did not show up tonight as planned for a one day workout with Mallett. The good news -- he is now planning to arrive tomorrow, Monday, and stay until the end of camp.
U-M commitment wide receiver Martell Webb. He will attend Monday.
Wide receiver Taurian Washington. He is arriving Wednesday.
Wide receiver J.R. Hemingway. He is coming for a visit on Friday -- the day after camp ends.
Tight end Kyle Hubbardfrom Lakewood, Ohio, St. Edward. He is arriving on Tuesday.
Offensive lineman Dave Molk from Lemont, Illinois. He is arriving on Monday.
Defensive lineman Joseph Barksdale from Detroit Cass Tech. He is arriving on Tuesday.
Defensive lineman Josh Brent from Bloomington, Illinois, Central Catholic. He is arriving on Tuesday.
Cornerback Ronald Johnson from Muskegon, Michigan. He is attending on Wednesday.
Cornerback Dionte Allen. He is arriving on Tuesday.
Junior cornerback Boubacar Cissoko from Detroit Cass Tech. He is arriving on Tuesday.
Defensive back Michael Williams from Ventura, Calif. St. Boneventure. He is not attending.
