Orchard Lake (Mich.) cornerback Dionte Allen (6-0, 170, 4.4), from St. Mary Prep, said he has about 15 offers--most in writing. "I don't know who leads yet, but I have a top five," Allen said.

"Michigan is only a half-hour from home. I went to their camp today. The coaches said that my back pedaling technique has gotten better and that I'm faster breaking it to the ball," he said. "I really like coach Ron English (defensive coordinator/safeties) because he's down-to-earth. Also, my older-classmen friends play there: Chris McLaurin (linebacker) and Morgan Trent (cornerback).

"I've always liked Florida State. They just have a different kind of game going on there and they're my childhood favorite. I've looked up to Deion Sanders and Peter Warrick. My first unofficial visit will probably be in July, but I have no set date.

"I've visited Ohio State and they have a real nice campus with a great horseshoe (football stadium). My cousin, Aaron Grant (safety), goes there and it would be nice to play with him," Allen said.

"I liked the coaching at Notre Dame. Coach Charlie Weis was cool because he didn't just talk about football. We had conversation too.

"Miami is Miami! It's the only other school besides Florida that I haven't been to yet. It's every kid's dream to go there because of the hot weather and they play so many schools (ACC, coastal division)," Allen said.

"I don't know when I will narrow down a school that has a slight lead, but hopefully in winter I will know more--or after I've visited Florida State. My parents don't mind where I go, and I don't prefer staying close or going far.

"Texas and USC aren't in my top five because they called in the school year to say they were interested in me, but I haven't received written offers from them.

"I'm a great leader. If I lead on the field, people will follow. I'm a hard worker, I listen and I'm competitive. I like cornerback more than safety because I know the position better and I've been playing it longer. This summer I'm trying to lift (bench presses 225) and workout every day to increase my strength," he said.

Allen reports a 3.2 core GPA and a 21 ACT score.
