Scout.com four-star running back Boom Herron (5-9.5, 198, 4.55) from Harding High School in Warren (Ohio) said he plans to commit this weekend. "I'll probably announce my decision at school. I want to get it out of the way and get ready for the season. It will come down to Ohio State (offer) or Michigan (offer)," Herron said. Herron has previously shown interest in Minnesota (offer), Miami, Penn State and Notre Dame.

"Ohio State offered me when I was at their camp on Friday about two weeks ago (June 23). I did a couple footwork drills and a vertical jump (37"). The campus is about two hours from home. They have a good team and good coaching staff. A lot of great players come out of Ohio State. Coach (Jim) Tressel has gone to a bowl game every year since he's been there," Herron said.

"Michigan's camp was the Monday before Ohio State's camp (June 19). I ran a 4.7 flat forty there, but it was electronically timed and you're supposed to take off two tenths or something like that. Their campus is three to four hours from home. Michigan is one of the top-notch programs in the nation. It's a cool school. My friend, Mario Manningham, plays wide receiver and my first cousin Prescott Burgess is a linebacker there.

"Minnesota is part of the Big Ten, and they run the ball. The past two years, their running backs have gone to the NFL," he said. "I grew up being a Miami fan and always wanted to play for them when I was little. They are so alive and there is so much excitement in their games--'cause when the Hurricanes play, you gotta get ready.

"Penn State is a winning program and they have young players because a lot of their freshmen play early," Herron said. "I went to camp at Notre Dame and they liked everything about me but they needed my final transcript, so I sent it in.

"I'm a downhill runner--I'm hard to hit and hard to lay hands on. I want to work on everything, but mostly my blocking so that I'll be stronger at my position," he said.

Herron bench presses 355, squats 550 and vertically jumps 37".

He reports a 2.8 core GPA and a 22 ACT.
