Chambers Reflects on Michigan Camp Experience

One of Michigan's first commitments in the class of 2007 was R. Nelson Snider High School's Artis Chambers. This year's summer camp provided him with one of his first opportunities to work with the staff and some of his future Wolverine teammates. GoBlueWolverine caught up with him so he could recap his experience.

Artis Chambers Profile

"It went pretty well," Chambers said of camp, "I got to see a lot of good competition and see some of the players who will be playing at Michigan. It was a great experience."

One player who Chambers got to talk to briefly at camp was another Indiana defensive back and Wolverine commitment, Warren Central's Jerimy Finch. The pair actually faced each other in the state title game when both were sophomores, but they have yet to have much contact. "I've only talked to him once at camp." Chambers said. When asked who else stood out to him while in Ann Arbor, Chambers did mention another future Wolverine.

"Martell Webb," he said. "He's big! He's like 6'5. He's a great receiver."

Chambers says one of the main reasons he committed to the Wolverines so early was the impression he got from the coaching staff and the atmosphere at the school. Those feelings were affirmed by his interaction with Coach Ron English and his defensive staff at camp.

"It was good working with them," recalled Chambers. "I got to learn a lot of new techniques I hadn't learned yet. The coaching staff was great, I really feel like I'm at home here."

Though Chambers is Snider's Quarterback, it is at Free Safety where he was named honorable mention all-state as a sophomore, and to the first team as a junior. Though he could also be tried at cornerback or free safety, Chambers says he worked exclusively at safety during camp. He expects will start out as a safety when his Michigan career begins, but the coaching staff has not indicated whether they expect him at strong or free.

With such an early commitment in the books, one would think Chambers may still want to take in the recruiting experience this fall and take visits. But that won't be the case.

"I don't think so," he said of the possibility of visiting other schools, "I'm solid to Michigan."

GoBlueWolverine will have film of Chambers in action coming soon.
