Position by Position, Class by Class-QBs, RBs

From "Eroc Wolverine" -- updating his extensive Position by Position, Class by Class analysis of the Wolverine Football Program -- including the recruits. First off: Quarterbacks, Running Backs and Fullbacks.

2006 Quarterbacks Roster, Outlook and 2007 Recruiting:

Chad Henne..............7.....QB.....Junior...........................(2004 Recruiting Class).
Jason Forcier..........19.....QB.....Red-shirt Freshman....(2005 Recruiting Class).
David Cone..............??.....QB.....Freshman.....................(2006 Recruiting Class).

Well let's hope Henne doesn't get hurt. Losing Matt Gutierrez to a Div. II school hurts for the purpose of pushing Henne this Summer/Fall and also in case Henne gets hurt. That security blanket isn't there anymore ... having just Red-shirt Freshman Forcier and True-Freshman Cone to battle and back up Henne.

2007 QB's Recruiting:

Michigan doesn't lose anybody at least by graduation. Michigan got the kid in 2007 Class so they would have 4 QB's on 2007 Roster.

Ryan Mallett.....from Texarkana, Texas (Texas).....*He committed to Michigan*.

The need was for (1) "Elite" QB type in this 2007 class and they got him.

Michigan recruiting fans and coaches seem to have gotten "the guy" in Mallett, their #1 QB choice for this 2007 class.

2006 Tailbacks Roster, Outlook and 2007 Recruiting:

Mike Hart..............20.....TB.....Junior...........................(2004 Recruiting Class).
Kevin Grady............3.....TB.....Sophomore...................(2005 Recruiting Class).
Carlos Brown........23.....TB.....Freshman.....................(2006 Recruiting Class).
Jerome Jackson.....24.....TB.....Senior...........................(2003 Recruiting Class).
Alijah Bradley.......26.....TB.....Senior...........................(2002 Walk-on).
Mister Simpson.....32.....TB.....Red-shirt Freshman.....(2005 Recruiting Class).
Brandon Minor.....??.....TB.....Freshman......................(2006 Recruiting Class).

Will this group stay healthy, mainly Mike Hart? There is plenty of depth and variety if they do. Kevin Grady -- will he settle down and "just run" and not over think. Carlos Brown -- starting class early will give him a jump and lets him move into the depth chart ... his speed will help him contribute as a true Freshman. Will a guy like Mister Simpson get a chance behind these guys? If the O-Line gets and stays healthy the TB spot should improve and be very competitive this coming year.

2007 Tailbacks Recruiting:

Michigan will lose Jerome Jackson and Alijah Bradley to graduation.

Will depth chart play a part like it did in 2005 to send Max Martin looking elsewhere? Let's hope not. Will the two "newbie's" get a chance and limit recruiting in '07? Will one play and one Red-shirt so they can still sell recruits with, "If your good enough you will play?" You can never have enough TB's, but can you keep them all happy -- that is the big question. Michigan will try and get one TB in this class (6 TB's on 2007 Roster).

Robert Hughes.......from Chicago, Illinois (Hubbard).
Curtis Shaw............from Stockton, California (Lincoln).
Avery Horn............from Hanford, California (Hanford).
Nate Williams........from Burien, Washington (JFK).
John Clay...............from Racine, Wisconsin (Park).

Michigan recruiting fans seem to want John Clay as their #1 guy, followed by Robert Hughes. Some have even suggested skipping this year for a TB and look for next year. I think the Coaches want a TB in this class.

2006 Fullbacks Roster, Outlook and 2007 Recruiting:

Will Paul...............34.....FB.....Red-shirt Sophomore.....(2004 Recruiting Class).
Andre Criswell.....39.....FB.....Red-shirt Freshman.......(2005 Recruiting Class).
Obi Oluigbo..........40.....FB.....5th year Senior...............(2002 Recruiting Class).

This is a interesting position under OC Mike Debord's system. He likes to get the FB involved a lot more than Terry Malone had done in the past. Debord likes to run the FB's and also use them in the passing game.

2007 Fullback Recruiting:

Michigan will lose Obi Oluigbo to graduation. Michigan got the kid they want (Vince Helmuth) in their 2007 Class so they would have 3 FB's on their 2007 Roster.

Vince Helmuth.....from Saline, Michigan (Saline).....*He committed to Michigan*

Vince Helmuth is Michigan's 1st 2007 Commitment and probably will be the only FB for this incoming class. So this position is done for the 2007 Recruiting Class.
