In the midst of sharing that excitement with family members, Washington says a misunderstanding occurred. Apparently his grandmother misconstrued what she had been told about the day's happenings, which caused her to prematurely confirm to Bucknuts.com that her grandson had committed to Ohio State. When GoBlueWolverine caught up with Washington yesterday he laid out a timeline of events to illustrate how the misunderstanding occurred.
3:00 - "Coach Hazel tells me about the offer and tells me they would love to have me come here."
4:00 - "I talked to Coach Tressel about my summer and about the offer. He also said he to would love for me to come to Ohio State. I let my parents know around 4:00. They let my grandmother know about the offer. "
8:00 - "I called and talked with my grandmother and let her know that I was offered by Ohio State. She was very happy for me."
Not long after Washington's conversation with his grandmother, reporters that cover the Buckeyes began to call his home. Bucknuts.com was told by sources that "Washington committed to the Buckeyes upon learning of receiving a scholarship offer." Upon finally getting through to the home, Washington himself was unavailable for comments, but his grandmother indicated to Bucknuts.com that what had been relayed to them by sources was true.
“Taurian spoke with someone from Ohio State yesterday,” Washington’s grandmother told Bucknuts.com's Duane Long Tuesday evening. “He did commit. We are very happy."
Unaware of his grandmother's interview, a surprised Washington found out about his reported commit the next day.
"People were calling me saying that I had committed to Ohio State," Washington said. "I talked to my grandmother and said, 'Grandma it is on the internet that I committed to Ohio State.' She said, 'I am so sorry, I thought you did.' I said, “Grandma, that is no problem at all (laughing)."
"Sometime around 10:00 (on Tuesday evening), someone called grandma and she was already tired, but she talked with a reporter," continued Washington. They asked her did I commit to Ohio State and she said yes because she thought that I said that I had accepted the offer and was going to go to Ohio State, when I really just said that he had been offered. It was just a misunderstanding. I have not committed at this time."
While it's clear that Washington was not quite ready to announce his decision this week, it won't be long until he is. He said he plans to make his college choice before his high school football season begins.
GoBlueWolverine will have more from Washington in the coming days.
