Mallett Humble About Elite Performance

GoBlueWolverine had scouted Ryan Mallett at the Elite 11 quarterback camp this week. Mallett walked away with most of the camp's awards, but was low-key about it when GoBlueWolverine spoke to him Friday evening.

GoBlueWolverine caught up with Michigan quarterback commitment Ryan Mallett Friday evening.

Are you back in Texas now?

"Yeah, I'm back home."

It looks like you walked away with most of the awards.

"Nah, not really."

You won the Best Arm award?

"Well, yeah, I did."

And you won the Accuracy Contest on the last day?

"Yeah, but I didn't win it on the other days. On the last day it was the drop-back contest."

And you won the award for the Best Chalk-Talker?

"Yeah. I just like doing that, breaking down an offense and a defense and talking about it. And I don't have trouble getting up and talking -- talking is no problem for me (chuckling)!"

And you were wearing the Yellow Shirt at the end (a take off on the Tour de France tradition)?

"Yeah. I'd say that my arm was still feeling strong at the end."

So did you have a good week?

"Oh yeah. It was a lot of fun. And I learned a lot."

What other quarterbacks impressed you?

"Well ... ... it's not just because he's from Texas, but I'd have to say Jarrett Lee."

Anyone else?

"Well ... not really to be honest. I'd just say Jarrett."

So, was the week just a lark for you, or did you take things seriously?

"Both. I was having fun but it was also serious business ... I took it all seriously and tried to learn as much as I could."

GBW note: make no mistake about it, Mallett is a competitor, and last night he still had a bit of a competitive attitude going regarding the past week's goings-on.
