Buckeyes Picked #1 in Preseason

The Ohio State Buckeyes were selected as the Big 10 Conference preseason favorites by the local media announced the Big 10 Conference today at the conferences annual media luncheon. Michigan, returning 18 starters, was placed second with the Iowa Hawkeyes picking up the final team accolades.

The Big 10 Conference announced Ohio State as the preseason favorite according to the media in attendance at the conferences annual media luncheon. Michigan, looking to bounce back after its first five loss season in over 20 years, was placed second by the media while the Iowa Hawkeyes were honored with the third and final preseason selection.

Ohio State, the 2005 co-Big 10 Champ, returns 11 starters, including the preseason Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year, Troy Smith. Sixth-year coach Jim Tressel will attempt to guide the Buckeyes to a third conference title in his short tenure at the helm.

Michigan returns 18 starters for the 2006 season and hopes that its talent and experinece will help Lloyd Carr bring home his sixth league title.

Iowa, with 16 returning starters, was awarded the third and final selection by the media.

Individual honors were given to Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith, Preseason Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year, and Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny, Preseason Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year.
