Post Game Presser: Quick Hitters

Wisconsin post-game press conference quick hitters from: Michigan Head Coach Lloyd Carr, defensive tackle Alan Branch, quarterback Chad Henne, running back Mike Hart, and defensive end Lamarr Woodley.

Coach Carr

"Our defense was magnificent after the first drive."

"Shutting down the run was the key to the game" (the Michigan defense gave up only 12 yards rushing).

"Special teams. We had good kickoff defense in this game. And the return team gave us good field position in the second half."

"Coming off an emotional effort the week before we were concerned. We were not at an emotional peak (against Wisconsin), but we played hard."

Asked if there is a defensive personality: "I think we took a major step toward that today. You won't find a bigger offensive line than they faced today."

On Alan Branch: "He made a couple plays in the second half, and he has a dominant force. He's bigger than most of the offensive linemen he faces -- he's 300 pounds and a great athlete."

On Mario Manningham: "Mario Manningham is a fun guy, he's fun to be around. As a younger player, he still has a lot to learn, but he is bigger and stronger than a year ago. After last week, you know Wisconsin was determined not to let him get behind the defense, and yet he did."

On Steve Breaston: "We have a lot of guys who take pride in special teams, and we have one guy who is gifted."

On Zoltan Mesko's 57 yard punt, which ended up in a Wisconsin fumble and a U-M score" That was Zoltan's finest punt. He's a left-footed punter, so when he really hits one and it's spinning the opposite way, that's a hard ball to catch."

On Adrian Arrington: "He has responded extremely well. I was not happy with him in training camp. I had him in my office and told him so, and he has responded."

Alan Branch:

"After the first drive, we made a mental adjustment. We came out stiff -- they have a huge offensive line, but then we felt them out and started having a good time."

Branch on playing offensive tackle: "On the inside I'm forced to use more power moves. I've starting to get better at it and feel more comfortable." Branch on a defensive identity: "We worked on our speed and strength. We play fast and are a physical team. Last year we were not hitting like we are this year."

Chad Henne:

On he and Mario Manningham: "I'm become more a student of the game. And Mario is starting to understand the game like me. With his speed -- he has great straight-ahead speed."

On going 2-13 on third down: "We're going to come in and watch film on that. Wisconsin would go to man defense on third down and our wide receivers need to get off the jam and create space."

Mike Hart:

On coming off the emotional high the week before: "We had to battle with it a little bit."

"It's great to win 4 games in a row (this is the first 4-0 start for U-M since 1999)."

"I realized that I wasn't running as hard as I could in the first half."

Lamarr Woodley

"We don't think about last year. This is a new team."

Woodley on Defensive Coordinator Ron English: "He brings out the best in every person. He makes sure that every guy on the defense knows what they are doing."
