Top Texas Wideout Has Midwest Ties

Four-star Austin (Texas) area wide receiver James Kirkendoll has offers from 11 of the Big Twelve schools, plus Florida, Tennessee, Miami and Arizona. But he has family in Indiana and would love to land a Michigan offer as well. GoBlueWolverine spoke to the speedy receiver, who GBW watched at this spring's Waco

At the Waco, Texas combine this spring, the heralded Terrance Tolliver was a no-show -- but James Kirkendoll was there and turned heads instead. His 4.38 40 time was (at the time) the fastest of the year at any combine this spring. He also recoded a blazing 4.03 shuttle and had a 33 inch vertical jump. And the speedster couldn't be checked in the on-on-one WR/DB drills, and he caught the ball easily as well -- as a comparison the 5-10, 170 pounder is a slightly shorter version of Mario Manningham (altho Mario was basically the same height at the same age as well).

A week ago Kirkendoll told that, "Michigan, Tennessee and Florida will get visits for sure."

So GoBlueWolverine gave him a call.

Have you received a Michigan offer yet?

"Not yet but I have been in contact with them and my coaches sent more film to the Michigan coaches last week and I hope to hear from them sometime this week. I'm really hope that I will get an offer from Michigan, they are definitely in my top schools. I have received offers from all the Big 12 schools except The University of Texas."

What are your top schools?

"Tennessee, Florida, Miami, Nebraska, Michigan and Ohio State -- although I do not have an offer from Michigan or Ohio State yet."

Are you looking to go to an out of state school?

"I'm looking to go to the school that will be the best fit for me. Location doesn't really matter to me."

Have you even been to U of M?

"No. I have never been on campus but the tradition and the overall great records of the football program definitely make Michigan a top school for me."

"I have family in Indiana but that's not going to affect my decision, it would be nice to be around them but I'm really looking to go to the school that is best for me."

Are you going to be making any official visits this fall?

"I think I'm going to wait until after the season so that when I go into a school I will have the time to look around and the coaches will have the time to give me the full rundown of how things work without being distracted by the season games."

How is your season going so far for your team?

"We are doing really well. We are 3-0 and playing Westwood High School this week but I'm confident about the game. One of the biggest games is against Leander on October 13 but I know the team is looking to get into the playoffs."

Are you hoping to be playing in the Army All American game in San Antonio this year?

"I went to the combine to qualify to play on the team and have stayed in contact with the program. I will hopefully be finding out sometime next month if I'm going to be playing. I'm really looking forward to that opportunity and I'm confident that I'll be playing there in January."

Have you talked to Ryan Mallett?

"Yes. Ryan and I have talked. He called me a few weeks ago seeing if I had talked to the Michigan coaches and told me to call them. He's a great quarterback with a canon for an arm."

Did you watch last weekend's game against Wisconsin?

"Yes, it was a good game."

What was your take on the game?

"Michigan has a great team this year, I really think this could be their year."

Kirkendoll also plays point guard and shooting guard for his high school team and averages 25 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds per game.

He reports a 3.0 GPA and a 1130 on his SAT.
