Michigan Handles the Spartans, 31-13

Michigan jumped ahead and then rushed the ball 42 times while throwing just 17 passes, controling the clock and the game. And, when a score was needed, Mario Manningham was there once again, catching two touchdown passes. The result: Michigan's 5th straight victory over MSU.

MSU took the opening kickoff to the U-M 9, and went three and out.

Michigan started at their own 39. Behind the running of Mike Hart (6 rushes, 33 yards), Michigan got 4 first downs and had it first and goal on the MSU 3. A holding penalty moved U-M back to the 13, then Chad Henne hit Adrian Arrington for a 13 yard TD pass at the 8:51 mark.

Michigan 7, MSU 0

MSU started at their own 20, got 2 first downs, then punted.

Michigan returned the favor.

Michigan fair-catched the U-M punt at their own 4, then went 3 and out.


Steve Breaston returned the MSU punt 20 yards to the MSU 46. After getting a first down, Henne hit Mario Manningham for a 43 yard TD strike at the 13:15 mark.

Michigan 14, MSU 0

MSU started at their own 25 at the 12:50 mark, and quickly got 3 passing 1st downs through the air. The drive stalled however and MSU missed a 34 yard field goal at the 10:47 mark.

Michigan started at their own 20 at he 10:37 mark. Sticking mostly to the ground, Michigan got 4 first downs, then Garrett Rivas kicked a 24 yard field goal at the 3:35 mark.

Michigan 17, MSU 0

MSU returned the kickoff to their own 29 at the 3:09 mark,got a first down, then punted.

Michigan ran out the clock to end the half.

MSU returned the ensuing kickoff to their own 23. MSU completed a 40 yard pass for a first down at the U-M 38, then two more, and scored from the 1 at the 3:47 mark (U-M's first rushing TD of the season allowed by U-M.)

Michigan started at their own 23. Sticking to the ground, Kevin Grady had runs of 16 and 10 yards, and then Brandon Minor had a 40 yard TD run at the :55 mark.

Michigan 31, MSU 7

MSU returned the kickoff to their own 32.


MSU got two first downs, but a Drew Stanton pass was intercepted by Jamar Adams at the U-M 10 yard line at the 12:51 mark.

Michigan went three and out, and Zoltan Mesko launched a 64 yards punt, returned 22 yards.

MSU started at their own 49 at the 10:02 mark. After a 39 yard pass completion and two first downs, Drew Stanton ran for a 2 yard touchdown at the 7:18 mark. A two point conversion was missed.

Michigan 31, MSU 13

MSU tried an onside kick but U-M fielded it at their own 48 yard line. But U-M went 3 and out and Mesko punted for a touchback.

MSU started at their own 20 at the 4:37 mark, but on the second play Stanton threw an interception to Leon Hall at the MSU 29.

Michigan turned the ball over on downs at the MSU 30, and MSU returned the favor as the game ended.
