Lorenzo Edwards Talks About His 2nd U-M Visit

Orlando Florida safety Lorenzo Edwards is a hard guy to reach, but he has good reason -- an almost hard to believe reason actually. This guy leads a busy life! And he is squeezing in official visits as well. Michigan this past weekend was his second, and he spoke to GoBlueWolverine Wednesday night about it.

Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater safety Lorenzo Edwards -- not only is he going to school and playing football, but he goes from football practice to a job as well! He graciously called GoBlueWolverine when he got home from work after 10 PM last night.

How did your Michigan visit go last weekend?

"The visit was great."

Did you mom or dad go with you?

"Both of them went. This was my mom's second visit - she came with me when I visited at the end of April. But this was my dad's first chance to see Michigan. "

What did your parents think?

"I'd say both of them got a great feel for the school."

Who did you hang around with?

"My host was Greg (former teammate, freshman wideout Greg Mathews) of course. And we hung around with Morgan Trent a lot. And Mike Hart. They are great guys."

What did you learn about Michigan?

"I wouldn't say I learned anything new. I'd already gotten a tour and a feel for Michigan back in April. But I got a tour of the Architecture program this time. And I spent more time in the new Academic Center for athletes. But the biggest difference was the game -- I got to experience the atmosphere of a football game in the Big House."

What coaches did you talk to?

"I talked to Coach Carr again, and to Coach Campbell (his Michigan recruiter). But this time I spent time mostly with Coach English -- I didn't get a chance to talk with him in April. We talked about playing safety for Michigan."

Back in April you visited Michigan and Notre Dame back to back on the same trip. And now you've made your first two official visits to Notre Dame (for the Michigan game three weeks ago) and Michigan. How would you compare the two visits.

"They are both different in their own way. Notre Dame is smaller. Michigan is bigger. And Michigan has the big stadium and everything. It's just bigger. But both are also similar in some ways -- both are great schools with great football programs."

What is next for you?

"I still have three official visits to go. I make an official visit to Georgia Tech on October 28th. And I'll be visiting Clemson and Florida as well."

You've got a strong GPA and test score (3.3 GPA/1140 SAT) -- do you want to major in architecture?

"I want to major in either architecture or psychology. I've had an interest in architecture, but I'd taking an AP Psychology class right now and I really like it."

Would you really come all the way up North for college?

"The distance from home doesn't matter. Notice that four of my five schools are away from home, so I'm not leaning either way."

"And my parents say that wherever I want to go, close to home or far away, they'll support my choice of school."

Edwards is a big safety at 6-2, 221 pounds. In fact, Scout.com has him listed as a linebacker -- and the number four linebacker in the country as a matter of fact! But he is playing safety and wide receiver for Edgewater -- and that's the position all of his top schools are recruiting him for as well.

Michigan is strongly in the running for Edwards of course, but it is a little too early for him to do too much comparing since he has three officiail visit left -- and the 'closer in' visits at that.
