Nation's #1 DE Prospect Visiting This Weekend

Nothing helps recruiting like winning! And nothing helps defensive line recruiting like relentless on-field play with sack-after-sack-after-sack. The nation's number one defensive end prospect has taken notice -- and has decided to take an official visit to Michigan this weekend.

Everson Griffen (6-4, 265 lbs., 4.46 in the 40) from Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Ariz. is Scout.com's no. 1 defensive end and no. 7 overall prospect. After earning the nickname "The Freak" at Arizona's football camp in summer 2005, he ran that now-famous, mind-boggling, 4.46 second 40 at the Los Angeles Scout.com Combine this spring.

And on Sunday Griffen told GoBlueWolverine:

"I coming to Michigan this coming weekend -- it's an official visit."

Did you watch the Michigan game Saturday night?

"Yeah, the Michigan defense beat Penn State up pretty bad."

When did you decide to make Michigan you're 5th official visit (not chronologically, but in order of when he set the visits)?

"I've actually been wanting to get to Michigan. I was supposed to visit during my bye week (Oct. 6th for the MSU game weekend), but we didn't get it arranged in time for me to get a ticket. So I took an official visit to Notre Dame that weekend instead ... I'd wanted to go to Michigan."

"I've been liking Michigan; I've been following them this season. I talk to (Michigan defensive coordinator) Ron English on the phone."

"Liking" doesn't mean 'liking best' of course, and Griffen told GBW that he has all five official visits set:

"My other official visits are set: Oregon November 4th, USC November 25th (for the Notre Dame game), and UCLA on December 2nd."

Griffen is reportedly having the kind of season that is expected of one of the top ten high school players in the country. Scout.com went to his game this past Friday, and here is a scouting report:

Agua Fria (Avondale, AZ) vs. Chaparral (Scottsdale, AZ).

Michigan fans can think: a faster Lamarr Woodley (honest).

Griffen is also a good student, sporting a 3.3 core GPA and an 840 SAT.
