Three-star defensive tackle (ranked No. 48 by Scout.com) Jeff Boyd (6-3, 280, 5.2) from Indianapolis Warren Central (Ind.) has helped lead his team to a perfect 13-0 record and a berth in the fourth round of the playoffs. Next they will face Columbus North as they try to win their fourth consecutive state championship, a feat that no other school in Indiana has accomplished.

Boyd has 40 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three fumbles caused and two recovered. He benches 305-pounds, squats 405 and has a 24-inch vertical jump.

"I pass rush well and am just an all-around player," Boyd said. "I'm physical and have good movement, but I want to improve my agility and strength. I need to get faster too."

Boyd says he favors West Virginia slightly over Mississippi, Kentucky, Louisville and Michigan and all have offered, except the Wolverines. "I grew up watching Michigan," Boyd said. "Actually, I liked all the big-time programs like Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State and Michigan. They were always my favorites. Michigan offered me an official visit and are calling me every week, so they seem interested. (GBW note: Boyd was an unofficial visitor for the U-M/Iowa game.)

"I like how Michigan is undefeated and I think it'll be a great game against Ohio State," Boyd said. "I really think it'll be close and it'll be won by a field goal."

He has an official already set up with Mississippi on December 8. "I like the SEC a lot," Boyd said. "It's a good conference and the team is up and coming. I need to take my visit and see what it's like there in person.

"I've been to West Virginia unofficially and really liked it," Boyd said. "It's a really cool place. I had a great time there. I like how huge they are and how everyone in the state follows them. I got along well with the coaches and they remind me of my high school coaches. I also like how they play fast because that's my style too."

He reports a 2.0 core GPA and is waiting on his results from the ACT he took a few weeks ago. "I don't really feel pressure to qualify," Boyd said. "I know I'll do it. I think I did pretty well on the ACT."
