GR Catholic Central Head Coach on Mark Huyge

GoBlueWolverine spoke this morning to Grand Rapids Catholic Central Head Coach Tom Passinault, regarding his offensive lineman Mark Huyge, Michigan's latest (and 16th) verbal commitment. Here is what the coach had to say.

"We were a little surprised" by the Michigan scholarship offer, Grand Rapids Catholic Central Head Coach Tom Passinault told GoBlueWolverine Thursday morning about Mark Huyge.

"He had about five MAC offers, but none from the Big Ten."

"But he's like Obi last year ... both kids went to the Michigan camp and did well there."

We asked Coach Passinault to tell us about Huyge:

"He's a true 6-foot-6 now, and 278 pounds. He's very athletic, and he's strong and will get stronger."

"His strong suit -- well he's a dominant run blocker, but he's best as a pass blocker. He's agile and has those long arms."

"He'll play offensive tackle in college."

Passinault said Huyge has excelled in several sports during his whole high school career:

"He's a 4-year letter winner here in football and basketball, and this winter will be the first that he didn't play hockey as well -- he always played hockey and basketball at the same time."

"He plays center in basketball. I'd call him an average basketball player - he averages 6-8 point and also 6-8 rebounds a game."

"He's a top student as well -- Michigan is getting a great kid."
