Q&A with Zebrie Sanders

One of the top line prospects in attendance at the Army National Junior combine last weekend was Clayton, Ohio's Zebrie Sanders. GoBlueWolverine sat down with the agile youngster and discussed his game, his recruitment, his decision timetable, and more.

Zebrie Sanders Profile

What are your height, weight, 40-time, and position of preference?

"6-6, 270, I run a 5.4 and I play left tackle."

For people that haven't seen you play, why don't you describe your game a little bit?

"I'm best at pass protection, but I'm pretty good at run blocking too.  I'm good at protecting the blind side.  A player in the pros that I could probably be compared to is Jonathan Ogden."

What part of your game do you think you need to improve upon?

"Probably run blocking a little more… getting lower and actually getting off the ball a little bit quicker and actually drive blocking a little better."

How did your season go last year?

"We did pretty well.  We were 8-2 and then we made it to the playoffs and we actually hosted the first game, but we lost and we finished 8-3."

How many Michigan games did you attend?

"I actually went to the first two.  They invited me to the rest of them, but I had other things going on."

Who from Michigan has been talking to you?

"Coach Carr has been talking to me and then their O-line coach came down to my school."

What other schools have you been hearing from?

"Ohio State, Georgia…who actually offered, Florida has offered, Clemson has been texting me, and also Georgia Tech."

Has Michigan discussed an offer with you?

"Actually they came to my school a few weeks ago and they said they were going to try to offer me and that they wanted me to come down to more stuff, so I'm going to be going to a lot more games next year."

Are you an Ohio State fan?

"I'm from South Carolina and I just moved to Ohio.  I do like Ohio State, but I'm not in love with them or anything."

Did you grow up a fan of any particular school?

"Actually no, but my mom is from Georgia so she pretty much showered me with Georgia stuff most of the time"

Have you participated in any school camps in the past?

I actually went to Ohio State's senior camp.  They invited me up there for that.  Then I went to the Georgia camp.  Also, I went to Ohio State's other camp and the pro day.

Do you plan on camping this summer?

"Actually I plan on going to Southern Cal's camp this summer.  As for other camps, everything is open right now."

Do have a timetable for when you'd like to make a decision?

"Probably after my senior season when I have all of my offers so I have time to think about it."

What are going to be the most significant factors in that choice?

"I'm going to sit down and think about where the colleges are located, the program's prestige, the coaching style, their style of play, and how they run the football."

You mentioned location.  Will you be considering distance from Ohio, or are you making reference to somewhere in the south?

"I'm talking about maybe somewhere not so cold all of the time (laughing)."

Would it be fair to say that the schools down south have a little bit of an advantage with you?

"Not really.  Maybe a little bit."

Do you plan on getting out and taking some unofficial visits in the next few months?

"Yeah.  I actually took an unofficial visit to Georgia a few weeks ago for the Georgia Tech game.  I spent some time with the coaches and the players. "
