2008 Intro: Leon Green

Michigan will be on the hunt for defensive backs in 2008, and one of the early targets on their list appears to be West Miffin (PA) athlete Leon Green. The talented youngster put his skills on display at the Army Junior Combine and established himself as one of the weekend's top performers. He sat down with GoBlueWolverine while in San Antonio to discuss his recruitment, his game, and much more.

Leon Green Profile

How did your season go last year?

"I played quarterback and defensive back.  At quarterback I had over 1300 all-purpose yards.  I didn't get my stats on defense, but teams didn't throw my way at all.  I played safety and if they threw, they threw screens and stuff like that.  We missed the playoffs by a game. "

In college, what position do you want to play?

"I will play any position that will put me on the field, but right now I'm looking at defensive back or wide receiver."

When you say defensive back are you talking about corner or safety?

"It doesn't matter.  I could play them both."

What's your height, weight, and forty time?

"I'm 5-11, 190, and my fastest forty time is 4.46."

What schools are you hearing from right now?

"Michigan, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Penn State, and Pitt.  Pitt will be giving me an offer at their junior day.  Some others… Kansas State, Arkansas, Alabama, Duke… there are a lot of them."

Have any other schools talked about offering you?

"In their letters they are showing a lot of interest.  I guess I've got to take my SATs, but it seems like they are going to offer me."

Did you grow up a fan of any particular school?

"I really don't root for any team.  I really just started watching and playing football in the seventh grade, so I didn't grow up following anyone."

You mentioned Michigan? What's your familiarity with the Wolverines? Have you camped there?  Do you know players there?

"I went to their open house and I met Lloyd Carr, so I talked to him in the summer.  I also went to a couple of their games. I also know someone that just signed there… Toney Clemons.  We're real cool.  We text message and call each other here and there. "

Does Toney talk to you much about Michigan?

"I actually knew he was going to sign with Michigan before he signed there.  That's what we talked about.  He was telling me how they recruited him and stuff like that."

Talk about Toney as a receiver.

"He's good.  He's physical and he is faster than what he looks like. "

Back to you… describe your game for people that haven't see you play.

"I'm smart…by the formation I can normally tell if it's a run or pass… I hit hard, I'm fast and I'm quick."

Do you plan on camping anywhere this summer?

"I want to camp at all of the schools that have shown me interest. I want to show them I can play instead of them just hearing that I can play."

Do you have a time-frame for when you'd like to make your decision?

"I'm going to make my decision on national signing day."

What are going to be the most significant factors in your choice?

"If they have my major, and if they are as interested in making me a better person as they are making me a better football player.  If I don't make it to the league, I still want to get a good job and be successful in that."

Do you have an idea of where you might take your five official visits?

"Florida State, Florida, Michigan, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Notre Dame.  I know that's six, but I don't know which one I'd take out yet."
