Instate Jr. Lineman Talks to Coach Carr

Grand Haven, Michigan is a Lake Michigan beach city that is suddenly producing college football prospects. The best among them: offensive lineman Dann O'Neill. O'Neill spoke to Michigan Head Coach Lloyd Carr on Signing Day morning -- and got good news from the U-M Headman.

GoBlueWolverine spoke Wednesday evening to Jim O'Neill, father of offensive lineman Dann O'Neill.

Did Dann get a Michigan scholarship offer today (Wednesday)?

"He did. He called Coach Stripling (who recruits the West Coast of Michigan for the Wolverines) this morning, and then he called Coach Carr. Coach Carr offered him a Michigan scholarship."

Did he commit?

"No, he didn't. He's just focused on wrestling right now (Dann was wrestling when GBW called the home); he wants to medal in the state tournament, so Dann does not want to take his mind off that."

"I'll say this: I run the weight lifting program at Grand Haven High so I was there when the calls happened, and afterward he was grinning like a banshee!"

Is Dann coming to the Michigan Junior Day next Saturday?

"No -- it kills us that we cannot come to Junior Day, but Dann will be at a wresting meet."

"We'll go over to Ann Arbor in March, for a spring practice."

Who else has offered Dann at this point?

"He has offers from Central Michigan and Western Michigan; Purdue has offered him; Nebraska said they were sending one; UCLA was in the school last Wednesday and said they were offering."

When we've seen Dann in the past two years he looked 6-4 or 6-5 ... we hear he's grown?

"He's up to 6-7 now. He's 285 pounds, because the weight limit for hi wrestling class is 286. And he has an 84 inch wing span."

Does he have a tImetable for his recruitment?

"I don't know ... as I say he's not talking much about it, not even to us. But Michigan is in his top three ... he's a fan of the team ... he's got some "Blue" in him ..."
