2008 Intro: Philepae Phillips

Detroit is home to a number of talented 2008 football prospects, and Michigan is doing its best to take a look at all of them. Recently, Detroit Central's Philepae Phillips began to garner major college attention. Though undersized at DE (he's 6-4, 197), his athleticism has piqued the interest of a number of college programs, including Michigan.

GoBlueWolverine spoke Sunday to Junior Day attendee DE Philepae Phillips (6-4, 197) from Detroit Central.

How did last year go for you?

"My team went 4-5.  I had 58 tackles, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, one defensive touchdown, and two fumble recoveries."

What schools are you hearing from at this point?

"I'm hearing from Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan State, Duke, Pittsburgh, and Notre Dame."

Have any of those schools offered?

"No, none of them have offered yet.  The only schools I've talked to about a scholarship so far are Maine and the Naval Academy."

You were in attendance at Michigan's junior day Saturday.  How did that go for you?

"It went well.  I talked to pretty much all of the coaches.  We mainly just introduced ourselves. (The coaches) said they would be coming by my school in May."

Are you going to camp anywhere this summer?

"Yeah, but I'm not sure where I'm going to go yet.  Most likely I'll be going to the University of Michigan, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh."

What are going to be the most significant factors in your choice?

"I'm going to be looking at how good the school is in academics and athletics.  I'll be looking at the graduation rate."

Did you grow up a fan of any particular school?

"Yeah, Michigan."

Do you have a decision timetable?

"I kind of wanted to do it before my senior year because I was to know where I'm going to go so I don't have to think about it all season."
