Garrett Rivas, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound, kicker from Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit became the sixth known verbal commitment for Lloyd Carr and the Michigan Wolverines.
Rivas officially visited Michigan this past weekend. Watching Michigan beat Washington on a last second field goal was the first order of business.
"I arrived about 15 minutes before game time." Said Garrett Rivas. "I had a game the night before, so I took the earliest flight I could Saturday morning.
"The game was unbelievable. The atmosphere, everything was perfect. After the game, I went over to Crisler Arena and met with coach Carr.
"After that I went back to my hotel and hooked up with my host (Carl Tabb) a little later that night.
"We went to dinner Saturday night and I hung out with Carl (Tabb) and some guys on the team.
"In the morning, I had breakfast and met with coach Carr again. That's when I gave him my (verbal) commitment.
"The (Michigan) coaching staff really cares about the players and I like how they put an emphasis on the kicking game."
Rivas made eight field goals as a junior and missed just three attempts. His long field goal was 48 yards. 60 out of 65 kick-off attempts were either in the end zone or out of the end zone.
Rivas carries a 3.6 GPA in the classroom and scored 1120 on his ACT.
