Stonum Tells GBW: He's Cut it to Five

Sugarland, Texas receiver Darryl Stonum has seen the interest from major college program escalate by the day in recent months. Unfortunately for many of them, the speedy receiver has already decided to narrow his focus to five lucky schools. Is Michigan one of them? Stonum gave GBW the latest on Tuesday night.

Fort Bend Dulles wideout Darryl Stonum has made no secret of his desire to make an early college decision early.  Recently, he showed just how serious he is about following through on that plan when he trimmed his rapidly growing list of suitors to five.

"I'm definitely going to decide before the season starts," said Stonum.  "I've cut my list to five.  This is in no specific order.  It's Michigan, Alabama, Florida, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State."

One conspicuous omission from that list is in-state power Texas.  When GoBlueWolverine last caught up with the talented youngster, he was prepping for a junior day visit to Austin.  However, that plan, and Texas' standing in his recruitment both abruptly changed.

"I didn't make it to the junior day," Stonum said.  "I haven't talked to (Texas) in a long time.  I haven't talked to them since last year.  I'm not really looking at them right now.  They already offered two in-state receivers, so I'm not sure where I'd fit in with them anyway.  I'd probably have to redshirt if I went there, and I want to play right away."

According to Stonum, a couple of other schools will be removed from contention in the very near future as well.

"I'm going to narrow it down to three in the next month and a half or so," he said.  "Once I do that I'll probably set up visits to those three schools and then make my decision."

GoBlueWolverine will have more on Stonum in the coming months.
