Another NJ LB Has Michigan in His Top Three

A few days ago GBW spoke to NJ LB J.B. Fitzgerald, who got a U-M Signing Day offer and attended the U-M Junior Day. Fitzgerald was not the only Jersey 'backer get a U-M S-Day offer. Absecon LB Marcus Witherspoon was another. Will Witherspoon get over to Ann Arbor for a visit as well?

Michigan linebackers coach Steve Szabo is on the prowl for top LB recruits, and he has found a couple in New Jersey, which is one of the states Szabo recruits for U-M. Princeton Junction LB J.B. Fitzgerald is one. And another is a guy who has fought through two years of injuries, but his hard work is paying off. Marcus Witherspoon (6-2, 210) from Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, N.J. struggled with a hamstring injury his sophomore year, but his junior injury was worse -- a separated shoulder suffered early in the season, but which cause Witherspoon to lose little playing time ... he just played with it, and had offseason surgury. Consequently, his junior stats aren't that eye-popping -- 90 tackles, 17 sacks and 3 interceptions -- until "with a separated shoulder" is added in. He was awarded for his efforts wih All-State honors.

And, he told GoBlueWolverine, colleges including The University of Michigan have taken notice as well.

"I was told to call Coach Carr on Signing Day, so I did and he offered me a Michigan scholarship."

What other schools have offered you at this point?

"Boston College, Clemson, Rutgers, Akron, Pittsburgh, and on the verge of offering from what I'm told are Georgia and Notre Dame."

What Junior Days have you been to or do you intend to go to?

"I went to Boston College's this past weekend and I was really surprised -- it was really nice. The whole visit was nice; I liked the coaches and the school."

Are you planning on going to any spring practices?

"Yes. I'm going to be at Michigan April 13th through the 15th for their spring game. And I'm going to a Pitt practice in March."

Are you going to take all five of your official visits?

"Probably not, I've got it somewhat narrowed down already."

Who is at the top for you?

"Michigan, Georgia, and Boston College."

If Notre Dame offers you, will it jump into your top three schools?

(laughing) "Yeah, probably."

What is your timetable?

"I'm going to try to decide sometime during my season."

Witherspoon will try to take fall visits to his top schools.
