LB/RB Marcus Dowtin (6-2, 210, 4.5) has attended a different school almost every year so far -- Bishop O'Connell (Washington D.C) as a freshman and sophomore, and Georgetown Prep School as a junior, before finding a home at Fork Union. This moving around has caused him to lose some credits and, he told GoBlueWolverine, "This is my fourth year, but Fork Union is having me repeat my junior year. So I'll be a senior next year."
His transferring has not caused college recruiter to lose track of him -- mainly because as a junior linebacker at Fork Union he recorded 126 tackles and returned two interceptions for touchdowns. On offense, Dowtin carried the ball 67 times for 562 yards (8.4 yards per carry) and 10 touchdowns.
And at a Nike combine last year (2006), he ran a 4.52 sec. 40 and a 4/06 shuttle as well as recoring a 30.8 inch vertical.
Dowtin told GBW that Michigan is among the schools who are pursuing him:
"Michigan has offered me a scholarship. Coach Campbell (U-M's ACC-area recruiter) has been in contact with my coach, Micky Sullivan, and I got a written offer from them.
What other schools have offered you?
"Syracuse, Nebraska, Clemson, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Maryland... and Iowa State has told my coach they are about to offer me."
Do you see yourself as a running back or as a linebacker in college?
"I don't have one or the other singled out. I'll play on both sides of the ball next year, and which ever colleges think fits me better, that's they way I'll go."
"Either running back or linebacker is fine with me. I see myself as an 'athlete'."
Are you planning to visiting some schools this spring or summer?
"I'm on spring break this week, So I'll try to get to Maryland, which is close by, for a visit."
"Once school is out for the summer I'll do what I can to get some exposure. I'll try to get to one of the late combines if I can."
What about any summer camps?
"Well, I've just starting to think about that. But My coach will get me information on the Michigan Camp, for one."
