2008 Intro: Chris Henderson

The Michigan Wolverines made their way to Harrisburg, PA last year to pluck defensive line standout Jason Kates. This year the Maize & Blue is back at Bishop McDevitt high school targeting one of Kates' former linemates, DT Chris Henderson.

How did your season go last year?

“Our team had nine D1 players sign (off the previous year’s team) so nobody thought we’d be that good this year. We still did pretty good though. We went to the district finals. We ended up losing though. We ended up with a 9-4 record and I had 70 tackles and eight sacks.”

Describe your game for people that haven’t seen you play.

“I’m 6-3, 280, 4.7. I like to get after it. I’m very physical. I like to get in the backfield a lot. I’m a good pass rusher. I like to get sacks. I put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks. I could move out to defensive end too. I can do a lot for a defense.”

When did you first start hearing from Michigan?

“It was back about a month ago. Coach Steve Szabo came to McDevitt and looked at my highlight tape. Then I talked to Coach Carr about a week after that and he offered me a scholarship at defensive tackle. It really was kind of out of the blue. One of the players from my school, Jason Kates, he went there last year. I talked to them before they came in, but it was really out of the blue. They sent me mail all of the time, but I had never had any real contact with the coaches or anything like that.”

What other schools have offered you?

“Syracuse is the only school that has offered me right now.”

Who offered you first?

“Michigan did.”

Are you hearing from the in-state schools?

“I’m hearing from (Pittsburgh) a lot. I went up to Pitt a couple of times. They said they were going to wait to see my SAT scores. They said they were going to offer me after they see my scores. I haven’t heard a lot from Penn State though.”

What are the other schools you are considering right now?

“Rutgers, Illinois, Connecticut, and Alabama.”

Where would you say Michigan is on your list right now?

“They are very high on my list. They are one of the top schools on my list because I like how they do things at Michigan. They’ve always got a good defensive program, they always have a good defense every year, and they always send a lot of guys to the pros. They prepare you well.”

Do you have a decision timetable?

“I sat down and talked with my parents about it. I’m going to make my decision as soon as my season is over. It will probably be the first couple of weeks in December.”

What are going to be the most significant factors in your choice?

“Playing as a true freshman, how I communicate with the people at those schools… the players and how I get along with them when I go out on the visits.”

Do you plan to make up to Michigan or any of the other schools on your list for camps this summer?

“I’m coming out (to Michigan) in like three weeks for a spring practice. I know I’m coming out for the spring game there too. I know I’ll be going to the Nike camp at Penn State and the Scout.com camp in Pittsburgh. I haven’t decided where I’m going to go yet for the college team camps.”
