Williams Takes in Michigan Spring Practice

Detroit King RB Darrin Williams recently took in a spring practice up in Ann Arbor. The explosive junior tailback talks about how that went and how his recruitment is going.

Detroit King’s playmaking tailback Darrin Williams was one of the top performers at the Nike SPARQ combine in Cleveland this past Sunday. He ran the fastest forty of any participant there with a 4.40 and also did 21 reps of 185 lbs on the bench press. That combine was part of a busy weekend for Williams. On Saturday, he was in Ann Arbor taking in a spring practice."

”It was good up there," said Williams.  "I talked to all the coaches… Coach Carr and the RB coach, Coach Jackson. They want me to come to the camp for a day this summer and then to a couple games.”

Williams plans to make that camp and see if an offer presents itself.. West Virginia has a heavy lead right now, but an offer from the home-state team could makes the decision a little tougher for the all-state back.

”It’s still very open,” Williams stated, “West Virginia’s still my first choice, but a Michigan offer would change things a bit because my dad likes Michigan a lot and he wants me to go up there.”

One of the aspects of the Mountaineer team that makes it so appealing to Williams is their system. Their spread offense is tailor made for a smaller (5’6, 165) back like him. That said, these aren’t the same straight-ahead running Wolverines of yesteryear, and Williams is well aware of the new zone blocking system.

”I talked to Mike Hart and Kevin Grady about it,” Williams said of the new scheme. “It doesn’t matter how big you are, the best guy will play.”

Williams’ busy spring/summer plans will continues next month when he heads to a scout.com combine. He is hoping to have a college choice made before the start of next season.
