Mathis a Familiar Face in Ann Arbor

Detroit Crockett Center Donald Mathis has been making the rounds to camps and colleges this summer. One of his more recent and frequent stops has been Ann Arbor. The big lineman tells us how his contact with the Wolverines has gone.

Anyone who has seen Donald Mathis get out and pull knows the big center can move. This off-season, though, Mathis has been moving even more. He embarked upon a busy travel schedule that consisted of camps, combines, and visits. He was recently invited to Ann Arbor along with several of the state's best for a photo shoot with Tom Lemming.

"It was nice," Mathis said of the shoot, "Boubacar Cissoko was up there, so was Nick Perry and a couple other guys."

The shoot was a chance for Mathis to talk to the Michigan staff, something had already been able to do when he took in one of the Wolverines' spring practices last week.

"Yeah, I was there last Tuesday and talked to them a little bit," he recalled, "But today, I got to talk the offensive line coach Andy Moeller and their defensive line coach (Steve Stripling). He just looked at me up and down and kind of checked me out. Then they asked some questions, what positions I play and stuff like that."

Mathis had just returned from the SPARQ combine in Cleveland along with several of his Crockett teammates. He is planning on visiting Ann Arbor again soon, possibly as early as next week for another practice. He also is looking to stop at Michigan's summer camp later on this year.

Mathis had previously reported interest from Central Michigan and Notre Dame as well as from the Wolverines. He has not received any scholarship offers just yet, but he is hoping a recent delivery to the Wolverines' football offices will produce the results he is looking for.

"They have my film now," he said, "so we'll just wait and see what happens."
