In-state Schools Turn up Heat on Detroit DE

Detroit Mackenzie defensive end Nicholas Perry has frequented the campuses of both Michigan and Michigan State in recent months, and in the process has learned he's one of the in-state priorities for both programs.

The in-state interest in Detroit Mackenzie defensive end Nicholas Perry has intensified in recent weeks. The 6-4, 210-lb. athlete recently indicated both the Spartans and Wolverines have scholarships waiting for him.

“For sure Michigan and Michigan State,” Perry said regarding what teams had offered. (Michigan) was basically telling me that when I’m ready to commit, I can. They said whenever I’m ready.”

The Michigan staff is clearly intrigued by Perry’s athleticism, as evidenced by their plan to possibly try him out at another position.

“They were thinking about moving me to outside linebacker maybe,” said Perry. “I don’t have a problem with that. I think I could adjust pretty well to that because I played linebacker before.”

While it’s clear that the two local schools definitely sit atop Perry’s list at this point, he is in no hurry to make a decision.

“I’m not sure when I’ll make my choice, but it will either be sometime late in the summer or after the season. I want to get out and visit more colleges before I make my decision. I’m also interested in West Virginia, Wisconsin, Florida, and USC.”
