Top Ohio LB/RB Visiting Michigan Today

Brandon Beachum is one of the three stars on Ohio state-champ Youngstown Cardinal Mooney, and the only one who has not yet visited Michigan -- but that is about to change today, his father told GoBlueWolverine Monday night. Will the LB/RB star come away with a Wolverine offer?

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney won the 2006 Ohio State Championship led by three star players -- QB/DB Dan McCarthy, FB/LB Michael Zordich -- and LB/RB Brandon Beachum.

Beachum transferred into Mooney for his junior year, and had a somewhat-injury-plagued season -- but in the 6-8 games he was healthy he was a force, making interceptions from his Linebacker spot and averaging over 100 yeard a game as at running back.

The 6-1, 210 pounder made a name for himself at the 2006 Army Combine as a rising junior, where he was one of the (if not the) top safety prospect in attandance, and at which he recorded a 4.3 sec. shuttle and a 31 inch vertical (he also ran a 4.8 sec. 40 into a 20 mph headwind).

Michigan fans had expected to see Beachum at Michigan's Feb. 07 Junior Day, but a rescheduled Mooney basketball game interfered (altho teammates McCarthy and Zordich drove up to A2 super-early that day and then made it back to Youngstown for the game).

However, a Michigan trip is about to happen -- Beachum and his father Lock are coming to a Michigan spring practice today!

Mr. Beachum told GoBlueWolverine last night:

"We are going to Michigan tomorrow and we are really looking forward to it. Brandon is on spring break this week."

Being a no-show at the U-M Junior Day made people wonder whether Beachum had serious interest in the Wolverines, but his father told us:

"We are certainly still interested in Michigan, they are a great university. Things have been extremely busy with Brandon picking up a ton of offers as of late but he is totally wide open at this point and time."

Beachum has 18 offers including Oklahoma, LSU and Penn State, but not - as yet - Michigan. Mr. Beachum commented:

"I know that certain schools are very particular about who they take and who they offer and Michigan is one of those schools."

As far as a timetable for Brandon:

"We'd like to start narrowing some things down and start really concentrating on certain schools since Brandon is graduating early. This recruiting process is a whole different ballgame compared to when I was recruited in high school!"

Michigan fans may remember back before Junior Day when Mr. Beachum told GBW:

"Two of my friends actually played for Michigan, Diallo Anderson [played safety during the early 90's] and Sylvester "Buster" Stanley [played nose tackle in the late 80's and early 90's]. Michigan football is football at it's finest."

And, Lock Beachum added at the time: "Brandon loves Michigan."
