Beilein Agrees to Buyout Terms with WVU

Michigan basketball coach John Beilein agreed to terms on a buyout agreement with his former employer yesterday. According to published reports, the new Wolverine headman will pay West Virginia 1.5 million dollars over the next five years ($300,000 per year), which is approximately one million dollars less than his prior contract called for.

“With this agreement the matter of my contract with West Virginia has been resolved," Beilein said in a prepared statement.

“Although it is the time to look ahead to a promising future of University of Michigan Basketball, my family and I will always treasure the five years we spent in West Virginia. We will miss the great fans of West Virginia University and especially the young men who just helped us win the 2007 NIT Championship."

Bob Huggins is a fortunate man to have an opportunity to coach this special group of student-athletes who will be returning from that team. I am sure what they were able to accomplish with that NIT postseason run will always be remembered in Mountaineer Basketball history."

“I will take great pride in following the future success of that team and all of the other student-athletes who I had the privilege to coach while at West Virginia.”
