Big TX WR Has U-M Offer, Connections

At the Dallas Combine in late March, a tall, strong Arp Texas wideout made the All-Combine team, and he has been picking up scholarship offers ever since -- including, recently, from Michigan. And, he told GoBlueWolverine, he has a Michigan connection.

Arp, Texas is in the tall pines 'football country' of East Texas betweeen Dallas and Shreveport, La. ... lots of tiny towns where football is king, including Tyler and Longview (home of former Wolverine Daydrion Taylor), and, right between them, the miniscule metropolis of Arp, pop. 906 (according to the 2000 census: "Urban population: 0, Rural population: 906"). In typical rural Texas fashion, the school districk for Arp is spread out enough to make Arp High School a 4-A school, Texas' second highest classification.

At the Dallas Combine in late March, Arp wideout Sedrick Johnson made the All-Combine team (click for Dallas All Combine Team and also click for for Secrick Johnson Combine Story). At the combine, Johnson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds (the Combine times are hand-held, but the Scout timer takes prides in being a "slow-watch"), the shuttle in 4.48 seconds and posted a 32.6-inch vertical jump.

Subsequent to his combine performance, Johnson has been picking up scholarship offers one by one. One of the schools who came calling with a scholarship offer recently, Johnson told GoBlueWolverine, is Michigan:

"Yeah, I called Coach Jackson and he put me on the phone with Coach Carr who gave me my Michigan offer."

What are some of your other offers?

"Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Colorado, Nebraska, University of Houston, and Florida."

Is there any school you still want to hear from?

"USC has been talking to me recently ... but Michigan is a hard school to follow. I'm really happy with their offer right now. Its a great football school."

When are you going to take your visits?

"I'm going to take all my visits this summer."

Are you going to do any summer camps?

"I'm thinking about going up to Michigan's camp."

He added: "I have a cousin at the Michigan Law School, and it would be nice to see her too."

What are your top 3-4-5 schools?

"In no particular order: Michigan, Texas A&M, Florida, and Oklahoma State."

When do you want to make your decision?

"I'm hoping sometime this summer, or, if not, early my senior year."

"I want to get it out of the way so I can focus on football."
