Kavario Middleton Gets Michigan offer

GoBlueWolverine caught up with Lakes High School, Washington head coach Dave Miller to talk about his standout player Kavario Middleton. This may come as a surprise to some recruiting fans – but Middleton just got his Wolverine scholarship offer.

"Yesterday at 10:30 am Coach Carr called and formally offered Kavario," Lakes Head Coach Miller told GBW. "I had Kavario in and we spoke with Coach Carr and right now we're in the process of trying to set up a visit on Oct 5th and 6th."

Tight end/defensive end Kavario Middleton is Scout.com's top overall prospect in the Northwest, and Lakes High School is the alma mater of another top U-M recruit from several years back … Jacksonville wideout Reggie Williams, a top wideout high school recruit who ended up choosing Washington, and who gave U-M CB Todd Howard fits in the 2001 U-M-UDub game in Seattle.

"Reggie Williams was recruited by Michigan and he absolutely loved it there. I believe that if Reggie lived like halfway between Michigan and Washington that he would have chose Michigan."

We've had a great experience with Michigan here. I love the way that Coach Carr runs the program with the discipline and structure of their program. We've had a great experience with Michigan here. I love the way that Coach Carr runs the program with the discipline and structure of their program.

"Kavario is excited about Michigan offering and I know he has them in his top five."

What might be the difference between Kavario's and Reggie's recruitment?

"Well I can tell you that Washington in not a lock. I know that they came off of a Rose Bowl win when Reggie was being recruited, and now they're in a rebuilding process."

Although Kavario previously mentioned that location was going to play a factor, Coach Miller said that there may have been a reason behind that. "I think Kavario wasn't sure what schools were really going to be recruiting him hard and were truly interested. I know that his message box is full at home (laughs). Kavario is definitely a national prospect and he just got offered by Tennessee yesterday as well. As far as location goes, Kavario is going to realize that he needs to go to the best school that can develop him as a player and get him to where he needs to be. In addition, he needs a place that has discipline and structure and will provide him with a good education."

What is his decision timetable looking like?

"We're trying to get everything narrowed down here in the next few weeks to a manageable top 5-10 schools that he can visit. He'll try to take some unofficial visits to the schools that he can because his family doesn't have the money to fly him all over the place like some of these other kids. He comes from a good family – a military family and he's got family in the Midwest in Minnesota and family in North Carolina."

"Kavario is also very talented in basketball as well and this next school year he'll be trying to lead both teams (football and basketball) to state championships. Kavario will be concentrating on that next year, so we're trying to get things narrowed down right now so he can take his visits in the beginning of the season and make a decision about where he wants to go before the (football) playoffs."

"I know that Michigan is very, very high on his list."
