Hockey: Berenson Announces 2007-08 Schedule

Earlier this week, U-M ice hockey coach Red Berenson announced the schedule for his 24th campaign as the front man for the Michigan hockey program. Included on the schedule are premiere games against Michigan State and Wisconsin, the past two national champions, Minnesota, Boston College, Boston University, Notre Dame and Miami (Ohio). Watch for TV announcements over the course of the summer.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - University of Michigan ice hockey head coach Red Berenson has announced the 2007-08 Michigan hockey schedule. Entering his 24th season at the helm of the Michigan hockey program, Berenson will have one of his toughest tests to date with a riveting schedule that includes no less than 12 games against teams from the NCAA Tournament last year and each of the past two national champions.

The Wolverines will first be on display at the annual Blue/White scrimmage, scheduled for Saturday, October 6. Just 24 hours later, the team will be back on the ice for the final exhibition tune up before the start of the regular season schedule.

Regular season play begins on Friday, October 12 against last season's national runner up, Boston College in the Icebreaker Tournament hosted by Minnesota. Dependent on Friday's outcomes, a match up with the Gophers could come the following evening.

After making a quick weekend trip to Northern Michigan the weekend of October 19-20, Michigan will return to Yost Ice Arena for its home opener against Boston U. the weekend of October 26-27.

It's back on the road for a two-game set with the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks the first weekend in November, and after a pair of home games against Alaska, the Wolverines arrive to the annual College Hockey Showcase after one more road trip to Lake Superior State.

Wisconsin comes for the first game of the Showcase, followed by the Gophers the following evening.

A home series against Ohio State and a home-and-home weekend with Bowling Green State University rounds out the first half of the Michigan schedule.

Michigan hosts Providence in the first round of the 43rd Great Lakes Invitational on Friday, December 28. A possible match up with Michigan State looms the following day.

The Wolverines open January on a Tuesday night for the second straight season, this time hosting the U.S. NTDP Under-18 Team in the final exhibition contest of the season before getting back into conference play with a home-and-home series against the Western Michigan Broncos the weekend of January 11-12.

Michigan continues the home-and-home trend the next two weekends in series' against the defending CCHA Champion Fighting Irish and the defending National Champion Spartans.

Northern Michigan comes to Yost for the first weekend in October, and the Wolverines lead up to their final match ups with the Spartans with two road games against the Miami RedHawks and two home games against Lake Superior State.

After a pair against Michigan State, the Wolverines conclude the 2007-08 regular season with a home-and-home series against the Ferris State Bulldogs.
