Jersey School Year Affects Brandon Smith

New Brunswick, New Jersey safety/athlete Brandon Smith grew up a Michigan fan, and had been talking about camping in Ann Arbor this summer. There is an unavoidable stumbling block however ...

New Jersey safety/athlete Brandon Smith had been talking about attending either the Michigan or Ohio State camps this summer. So GoBlueWolverine talked to him Sunday evening to find out the latest.

Are you planning on coming to the Michigan camp next week?

"No. I'm not out of school until June 21st."

"I'm not camping anywhere this summer. I don't want to miss any of my summer team practices."

"Besides, Coach Szabo told me that since I already have a scholarship I don't need to go to prove my abilities."

Are you going to visit Michigan this summer?

"Yeah ... I want to but I have to wait until school gets out ... so I might get over there in late June or July."

Do you have a top 3-4-5?

"Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers, NC State ... and Wisconsin."

When are you going to make your decision?

"The plan right now is to wait until signing day to announce so I can take all my official visits as well."

"But if there is one school that just feels right, and I can tell that it is the right school for me, then I may make an earlier announcement."

As a junior, Smith did it all for his high school team, playing quarterback, safety and linebacker. He finished his junior season with 1053 yards passing and 16 touchdowns. Smith had an additional 670 yards rushing with nine scores on the ground. Defensively, he had 60 tackles and nine interceptions.

He is considered a safety prospect for the Wolverines.
