Winston Ready to Show His Skills

Detroit Denby ATH Glenn Winston is bubbling just under the radar, but recent camp performances indicate that may not be for long. A big step could come next week when the talented back takes his game to Ann Arbor for the Michigan Summer Camp.

What a difference a week has made in the recruitment of Motor City standout Glenn Winston. The Detroit Denby product came into last weekend’s ThinkDetroit PAL combine as barely a blip on the recruiting radar and left as one of the rising names in the state of Michigan. Those who have played against the big 6’1, 213-lb bruiser already knew about him, but now the rest of the state and rest of the country may finally be catching on.

Winston’s 4.39 forty yard dash and college ready build are just two of the reasons why he’s already been hearing from a few select programs.

”I hear from Michigan State, Minnesota and Illinois,” he said.

Though he is just a relatively short drive from Ann Arbor, Winston says he has not had much contact with the Wolverines. All that will change next week, when he is one of the many campers looking to catch the watchful eye of the coaching staff.

”My coach his been wanting me to go up there and show them my skills," said Winston.  "I found out that summer school doesn’t start until the week after camp, so I might be able to go for two days.”

A versatile player, Winston could line up at safety, linebacker or running back at the next level. This summer, he’ll hone his skills and continue to improve upon his speed and strength by training with Luther “Big Lu” Campbell who has worked with athletes ranging from Braylon Edwards to Jalen Rose.

”Yeah, I’ll be with Big Lu for a whole month,” Winston said.  “We haven’t started yet though.”

His month with Campbell was one of the perks he and the other MVPs of the ThinkDetroit PAL combine received. Winston is hoping a repeat performance in Ann Arbor will bring him even greater rewards.

GoBlueWolverine will have full reports on Winston and the other campers over the next week.
