“It was good,” Wilson said regarding the few days he spent on Michigan’s campus earlier this week. “I had fun, and that’s a big part of it. I got to see how the camp was going and see more of the campus and the coaches. Plus they took my mother, my brother, and his friend to do things like see the stadium while I talked to the coaches. I thought it was good.”
One of the many topics addressed during Wilson’s conversations with the Michigan coaching staff was his belief that they are recruiting him exclusively as an H-back. While he insists that hasn’t been a negative factor in his Michigan recruitment, the two-way star admits that he hasn’t yet decided which position he wants to play at the next level.
“The defensive coach said that if I wanted to, I could play defense,” he said. “He just hadn’t seen my film before and that’s why he hadn’t talked to me about it before.”
When not chatting with the coaches or observing camp, Wilson was busy gaining a better appreciation for the campus life. That’s where the players took over. One Wolverine spent more time and energy than any other selling Wilson on the virtues of the Maize & Blue… a job which he had been extremely successful in with prior recruits.
“I hung out with Ryan Mallett, Mike Hart, and Shawn Crable,” Wilson recalled. “Mallett was probably the one with me the most because he was the one that was supposed to take me out and show me a good time. He was just saying that it was fun up there and how he came all of the way from Texas. He said that everybody up there loves Michigan football and how there wasn’t a better place to play. He was more or less telling me what everyone already knows about Michigan, really.”
Michigan fans began to wonder just how much Wilson enjoyed this week’s visit when a recent newspaper article indicated he had a top two of Clemson and North Carolina. In the Thursday edition of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review Wilson is quoted as saying, "So far, probably Clemson is the one that I liked the most and then North Carolina."
When asked if that was where thing now stood, the Keystone State star claimed he was misquoted.
“Really (the author of the article) kind of messed it up big time... like major,” said Wilson. “She asked me who texts me more…like who texts me the most. I said Clemson and North Carolina. She never really asked who were my top two or who were my top (schools). She just asked who texts me the most and switched my words around and said that’s my favorite school.”
So what schools do comprise his top list?
“Clemson is obviously one, Michigan is one, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech…basically it’s like the 10 I’ve had basically. Some are better than the others, but I’m not really saying what I feel just yet. I’m going to wait a little later.”
How much later is still up for debate. With few unofficial visits left on the docket, Wilson may wait until well into the fall to settle in on a final choice.
“I may make my way up to Rutgers (for an unofficial visit) if I can, and that will be the last one this summer,” he said. “Right now I don’t really know when I’m going to pick a school. Basically it just depends. I’m not really sure if I want to go ahead take my five officials…but know in my mind what school I really want to go to. Or do I just want to go ahead and commit? I might want to take the five official visits because, why not? I’ll probably wait (to make a decision) until I take them.”
