GoBlueWolverine caught up with Houston Cy-Fair running back Sam McGuffie (5-11, 195, 4.3 sec. 40, 3.75 sec. shuttle, 360-lb. bench press, 40-inch vertical jump ... 3200 yards and 44 TDs as a junior ... 3.0 GPA/22 ACT).
Sam had an unofficial Michigan visit that went from Thursday night through Sunday night, and is on his way home this (Monday) morning:
How did the visit go? In a nutshell:
"The visit was great."
Sam had a long three-full-days visit, and, "My flight leaves at 10 AM."
McGuffie has family just an hour from Ann Arbor, and has been to the state several times, but he'd never been on the Ann Arbor campus before. So this was a much-anticipated visit -- was it what he'd hoped it would be?
"It was everything I hoped it would be, and more. All the pieces were there."
The long visit that spanned five days, from Thursday evening through Monday morning. The Michigan football players were mainly home for the fourth of July holidays, but Mike Hart and fellow Texans Ryan Mallett and Troy Woolfolk all showed up back on campus to help host McGuffie, along with another Texan, Brandon Herron, who was already in town, and Vince Helmuth who came in from nearly Milan.
We asked Sam, did you feel comfortable at Michigan?
"Definitely ... everyone here made me feel at home here, like I belong, like family ... I've got (Ryan) Mallett sitting here with me right now."
As far as announcing a college decision, McGuffie said:
"I'll be ready to say something when I get home."
When asked for a timetable, he said:
"I'll probably get something set up for next week."
Sam's grandfather (his dad's dad) also came in from nearby Lapeer (in "The Thumb" of Michigan, where his dad is from and his dad's family still lives) to visit with Sam on Sunday.
So for Sam, it was a bit of a family affair.
